i was thinking about a syncretic diwali - and entertained thoughts of it being about welcoming hera into the home, celebrating domesticity and wealth, but that’s not really an analogy i think fits very well? besides, diwali is about the victory of good over evil, and light over the darkness, and greek myth doesn’t necessarily have good representation of Evil TM, imo, since the myths are more focused on interpersonal issues of justice, loyalty, and a person’s place in the world (in my opinion, anyway; but also noting that many deities have the epithet of sôtêria/sôtêr) (and not that hindu myths aren’t focused on these things, it’s just that there’s often a very clear evil, portrayed through monsters and demons that the gods rally against).
so this makes me think, what is the point of diwali? and the answer to that depends on where you’re from, what religion you are, and what is your caste background. so i’m going to think about this a little more and expand on my thoughts when i have a little bit of time.
