Sounds super awful :(
Yeah, it’s scary how open people are with their hatred. They don’t even know to be ashamed of it. Thankfully, there were also pro-LGBT counter-protesters across the street. I honked for them and they cheered. I think it’s very telling that, in contrast to the other protesters, their signs were messages of love.
Sam and I had a conversation with N~ right afterward, because N~ wanted to know why he had to close his eyes. I explained there was a very bad word I didn’t want him to see. And we talked to him about how he feels happy when he creates things, so God must feel happy when he creates things too. So if people are born loving people of the same gender or feel like they’re a different gender than the one they were born as, then God must be happy with how they are too. We talked about it for a pretty long time, and it was difficult to explain cuz N~’s only 6, but he gets the basic gist that it’s a terrible thing to hate people for being different. It’s something we plan on reinforcing throughout his childhood.

I always romance the dark flirty foreigner
So, Zevran, Isabela, and Dorian, huh? Nice. :)
kurosmind
so the serious unsmiling elves are a constant for you xD
So long as they’re paired with a human who would rather make jokes than deal with their issues, yeah. ^_^;;
And it’s not like I planned them that way! Pai was supposed to be my main Inquisitor. But then Aeric and Dorian happened, and... well... *gestures to novel-sized fanfics and thousands of screenshots*
A moment later, the Undercroft door flew open. Cullen and the guards rushed in; the Commander ready with his sword and shield, but only dressed in a loose tunic and trousers. "There!" he shouted, pointing at Aeric. "Inquisitor! Are you alive?" Aeric gave a weak chuckle. "You're late," he said, his vision beginning to tunnel. Try though he might to keep his eyes open, within moments, everything went dark. (For the 500 words thing pls tell us about this whole assassin scene)
Funny thing about the assassin scene from “The Lift Away” - if Aeric hadn’t already been awake, he would have died. Okay, not funny… but interesting? I wouldn’t have killed him, of course, cuz the whole point of the story was to get these two crazy kids back together (Damn you, Trespasser!! *shakes angry fist*), but it was always meant to be Aeric coming really darn close to dying.
That ending for the scene in particular was supposed to be slightly ambiguous to keep the tension up for a minute longer. I think I might’ve pulled the proverbial punch with it a little just because I hate false drama that’s solely there to manipulate the reader. But I wanted a narrative dig there so the reader could feel at least a bit of the doubt that Dorian does while he’s waiting for word from Skyhold.
The assassin scene was also a challenge because I had to figure out what Aeric had at his disposal to work with. He doesn’t like to sleep with much on, so not much to protect him from harm. He’d have a bow and quiver nearby, but not enough time to belt on the quiver, so he’d have limited ammo. And he’s really fucking isolated from everything up in that tower of his. Honestly, the security situation at Skyhold is kind of atrocious for a military-ish organization.
I considered taking the fight out to the courtyard instead of the Undercroft, but I figured that 1) Aeric wouldn’t want to endanger anyone else, and 2) that’s a LOT of open space with very few places to hide. The Undercroft was enclosed, had cover, and had at least half-finished weapons, so that’s why Aeric took the fight there.
I considered several different ways for the assassin to finally be killed, but ultimately it seemed more meaningful - at least to me - for it to be a matter of willpower. Aeric wanted to keep his promise to Dorian so, so much. And so he ripped reality open to do so.

Its ok to suck at games! I’m very bad at smash too lol
I know, I just feel bad when it’s a team situation and someone has to carry my ass through a battle, lol. Smash is NUTS too, so I’ve never been very good at it. Haha, oh well.
