I hope so. If BC elects the NDP it could boost the profile of the federal party, not to mention some other provinces in their upcoming elections. I’ve seen a lot of anger towards Brad Wall’s government in Saskatchewan (and the only other party with enough support to form government is the NDP), and in Ontario the Liberals are floundering in the polls. I’ve seen the NDP gaining positive impressions in some of Atlantic Canada too. 

If people can be convinced that the NDP is the alternative to the Liberals/Conservatives than things may start to change.

you know, I had manips stolen before and that taught me to always put my name and my blog’s on my graphics as much as possible so none can tell me ‘But I didn’t know it was yours!’ and having someone voluntarily cropping my name and putting some PSD on it is already so gross, but a porn blog at that? urgh.

Have you heard how some pipeline activists in the States are asking people to drop their banks b/c they're invested in the pipelines? 'How Standing Rock’s Divest Campaign Can Stop Future Pipelines' -yesmagazine I know TD bank is profiting from it and I've been meaning to drop them for a while(stupid fees and shitty mutual funds)this is just the icing on the cake

Yes, I’m aware. There’s also been some activism to do the same in Canada. Its not just TD; RBC and Scotiabank are also investors in that pipeline.

For those curious here are the Canadian banks that are investing into the Dakota Access Pipeline:

TD Securities is directly financing $365 million toward the construction of the DAPL and, additionally, the oil and gas infrastructure projects of one of the pipeline’s joint owners, Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners. RBC and Scotiabank are providing $341 million and $100 million respectively toward Energy Transfer Partners and Sunoco Logistics, another joint owner of the DAPL.

Could their views count as neo liberal than? Or am I using that term wrong? I always thought neo liberal and neo conservative meant the same thing except on where their social/morals lied but lately I think them no better than the conservatives tbh

I would consider many of this government’s policies to fall into the area of neoliberalism.

In many ways they’re not that different from the Conservatives. The Liberals do seem to care more about social issues/feminism/LGBTQ rights/etc (but even on these issues their views aren’t really that progressive compared to more left leaning parties like the NDP & Greens) but that aside many of the economic policies, foreign policy, etc aren’t much different from the status quo of the last government.

They were within their right to protest. The points they brought up are valid criticisms. There are a number of areas that the Liberals have been dragging their feet or have repeated regressive policies of the prior Conservative government; many of these policies the government is carrying on are not helpful for youth, so yes I do support them.

I’m hoping that this increase in public pressure, leads to changes in the government, but I’m not entirely optimistic that much will change.

I was disappointed in Trudeau’s liberals even before they were elected tbh. My feelings for them have only soured as time has gone on.

So about that oil spill dispersent corexit...July 21st the Green Party called on Environment Canada to reverse the approval of the toxic chemical already passed for use in Bill c-22 . So since this article is on the Green Party website and as recent as the Saskatchewan oilspill hopefully they can overturn it. Would you know of any local mp people can call to voice their concerns about this? Because they basically could already be using this toxic stuff to combat the spill as we speak😨

A group called Green Pac made a list of environmentally conscious MP’s, so the list should be a good one to contact about this issue.

Hey have you heard about how our government okayed the use of corexit (a toxic chemical) for oil spill clean ups? I wonder if they'll use it for the Saskatchewan oil spill 😤

Canada oks use of Corexit for oil spills—Despite What We’ve Learned in the Gulf

Excerpt:

So when Canada’s government approved the use of dispersants in its amended oil-spill response outline last month, environmental advocates were not happy.

“It is sham,” says John Davis, director of ocean-advocacy organization Clean Ocean Action Committee. “[Corexit] doesn’t do anything to clean up an oil spill. It allows the toxicity in the oil to become more biologically available. The last thing you want is for oil to accumulate in the gills of a lobster.”

Before the updated regulations passed, several federal environmental statutes prohibited the use of dispersants to clean up oil spills because of the harm they wreak on wildlife, including the Migratory Birds Convention Act, the Fisheries Act and the ocean disposal provisions of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

Safety information on the use of Corexit advises the chemical be kept out of contact with eyes and skin, which it can severely damage. It can cause nausea and vomiting if ingested, as well as chemical pneumonia if it is inhaled into the lungs. Seeing that Corexit, like other oil dispersants, are sprayed, this is a real danger not only for animals but also for humans applying the chemical to the surface of an oil slick after a spill.
