If you obsess over hating your flaws, you’re a fool. If you can’t learn to own what you are even at your worst, you’ll always be unhappy. You are worthy, good enough, just as perfect as every other animal. Teeth, Claws, Monster parts and all.
Only love someone who can love your ugly bits, and who finds even them beautiful.

Bronto Hide for Ray!
Send me a material + a character and I will answer the question associated with it!
Bronto Hide :: What is the single stupidest, most bullheaded, “milord no; MILORD YES” thing your character had ever done up till now?
Well, there are plenty of instances in his past, like trying to show off in a joust and breaking his nose... especially in the two years he spent traveling around the Marches, there were quite a few “hold my beer, watch this” kind of moments, but for this... I’m going to say that the MOST stubbornly stupid thing, or at least the thing he regrets having gone the way it did the most, was getting Dorian’s amulet back from Ponchard.
And I know, that’s probably a weird thing to mention when talking about stubbornness and stupidity, but I don’t hide how much that quest rubs me the wrong way.
It just makes me feel all kinds of engh that, to complete the romance quest, you inevitably have to lie to Dorian at some point. Either you have to get him to a place with ulterior motives and catch him off guard (again), or ignore his explicit wishes (again), so in my canon I go with the former so I can claim well-intentioned ignorance (because lbr had Dorian said “don’t do that” Ray would not have done that), take the events as they are, and headcanon in that it was all an impulsive screwup they both regret having gone the way it did.
Overall, Ray is... not a very stubborn character. Stupid, yes, prone to trying to resolve problems by whacking his head against them, absolutely, but otherwise, if anything, he’s... kind of wishy-washy, really.
In most of the game, up to the very end of Trespasser, he doesn’t really make a decision that wasn’t prompted by someone else- except for that one. That one was a hurt and angry, spur of the moment gut reaction, and it was either that, or “screw you too, good luck trying to get back your Maker-damned amulet then (and see if I go out of my way to try to make you happy ever again)”
(Admittedly the latter would have been worse, but it was still not his best moment, at all.)
That “nevermind what he is (but he’s definitely not my friend)” hit Ray where it hurt. And, like I said, they had never spoken of it before, so he was completely unaware of Dorian’s feelings on the subject- he only knew that birthrights are super important (he is a noble after all, that he would know without asking), and that because of that importance, getting his back would probably make Dorian happy.
So it was going to be a surprise, but instead, what fragile Thing they had going on at the time almost all crumbled around them, just because of a few misunderstandings and misspoken words.
Overall, it was stupid, and stubborn, and impulsive, and cruel, and Ray is painfully aware of it and regrets it immensely. He had plenty of time to think about how he lashed out, and how bad it was that the interaction with Ponchard ended with a half-spat “I’ll do as you ask”. (And Dorian turning on his heels, walking away, and not speaking a word on the way back. That, too, was bad. Very bad.)
(And it didn’t help that upon getting back to Skyhold, he chose to duck out of the way of the problem, and avoid Dorian as well until he actually got the amulet back to offer it as an olive branch, but... yeah, the thing itself was definitely stupid, balls-to-the-wall, and bullheaded. Had this whole little speech planned out to offer it and beg for forgiveness. Was a bit too busy being kissed to deliver it, but it was eventually delivered, only a bit later.)
.... there was also the time he attempted to outdrink a vashothari in Markham for nothing but bragging rights, and woke up next to a dwarf and an elf, and with a tattoo on his face that he didn’t remember getting, but that’s more just stupid than stubborn.
Good morning, darkness.
I was going to go to bed but the next episode of X-files was called Sleepless so obviously I had to stay up and watch it.
