Sunday Book Review | Handmade To Sell by Hello Craft
These days handmade is everywhere. More people are shying away from mass-produced items and wanting to buy local, it makes sense that the popularity of online and 'offline' markets are on the rise. But a quick glimpse through etsy shows that this also means that the market is flooded in almost all categories! If you're wanting to join in and want to make your shop successful, where do you start? Handmade To Sell by Hello Craft is one of the best books I have read on the subject. From the history of the craft movement to how to market yourself, it's the perfect tome for the small crafty business owner. One of the most important areas that I think the book covers is licensing, copyright and trademarks. Unless you know a lot about the law, it can be hard to work out not only how to protect yourself - not only for your products but also to make sure you don't rip off anyone else! The other great thing is that it also talks about markets, stalls and shops, not just online sales. As someone who is planning to have my own stall I've been reading up big, trying to learn as much as I can so it is as successful as possible.
