A tiny suggestion...

Does anyone want to learn Lenormand with me?? It'll be fun, I promise! Nothing too complicated :) I was going to dedicate the month of March to Lenormand, but I'm getting impatient and want to start now :) So I was thinking I'd start with reading card pairs, maybe like a pair a day or something. I was thinking I'd draw a pair and try to come up with as many meanings as possible. Does that sound even remotely interesting? Because I can (and will) do it on my own, but it's more fun with more people! Maybe we can help each other out and stuff :) Tagging @coffeeandtarot because you started a cool thing last year and maybe you want to pick it up again? (No pressure, just asking!) :)

day 24 of #smjulychallenge! • where could i be more honest? woman | ring | fish - yeeeeah i guess even a non-lenormand reader could tell that's about marriage 😄 fish is throwing me for a loop though, because there's no real way to be /dis/honest about finances (and i'm certainly not hiding a secret fortune anywhere - I WISH!) - ?? and it's not about work because i know who i am and how i conduct myself. STUPID FISH WHAT DO YOU MEAN???

Keywords and Essences

As coffeeandtarot keeps on with the #Hello Lenny and helping people understand #Lenormand, I stumbled across this post at Delphi’s Chamber : a new serie of article about #Lenormand and how the author reads it. He did specified that he doesn’t really do with the keyword technique and it reminded me of Andy’s latest course, he did the same : see this article for Andy’s cards’ essences.

Now. It is not a question of taking sides or having preferences. I am heavily relying on Rana Georges or Caitlin Matthew books when doing readings. My first reflex when doing a reading, is to try my memory and get the answer by myself. Since I started years ago to learn, I know by now what cards are about but still, I vaguely have it. I have the essences. But the essences are not the nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. And I’m a slow learner ( I wonder if I’m not down right resistant to learning ;) ) so I need the keywords to fine tune the vague “You’ll be fine !” when  Clover + Bouquet pop in for the health prediction of the month ( tomorrow is June 1st, why not practicing your fortune-telling skill with predicting the month ahead ? )

I think the essences are a nice touch and helps a lot to get the core of the cards and building from there. Because in the end, no matter which keywords you attach, one day, the card won’t be it ( because it’s Lenormand and that is how it works ) and when you start learning you don’t think at all that cards can be literal.

I’ve got my deck, my books and my crystal ball and I’m ready to tell some fortunes  🔮

Haven’t started the bookwork section of the Lenny for Tarot Readers aka Hello Lenny yet, but I’ve got this far! My deck of choice is the Dia De Los Muertos Tarot LENORMAND (dumbass) by Edmund Zebrowski at Delphi’s Chamber - traditional Lenormand images executed in bright pastel.

There’s also “Learning Lenormand” by Marcus Katz & Tali Goodwin, and “The Secrets of the Lenormand Oracle” by Sylvie Steinbach. When I got the Steinbach book, it was the only available English-language Lenormand guide at the time. I’d love to add Caitlin Matthews’ “The Complete Lenormand Oracle Handbook” and Rana George’s “The Essential Lenormand”. Gotta start practising if I want more pretties!

Lenny flashcards

When I looked in my box of index cards I found exactly ten that weren't written on. I ripped nine of them into four pieces, so these things are tiny. And I had one extra in case I fucked it up :) (I'd hoped I had more blank cards so I only had to cut them in half, but all the rest were full of amino acids and Chinese vocabulary, so itty bitty flashcards for me...)

I’ve watched the videos, and I think I have all the numbers down, but maybe not all the meanings. Most of them are pretty logical, like the ring being an agreement or a contract, and the fox being a sneaky bastard, but then you have certain additional meanings that you just have to memorize. I mean, how the hell do you get internet from the stars? And the fish means sperm? (Ew.) And the whip kinda bothers me, mixing passion and sex with punishment and abuse. Ugh.

But I'm making progress, and I think I know enough of the basic meanings to do simple readings. I’ve left space on top of the cards to maybe add in the positive/negative values and playing card correspondences later, but for now I feel like I have enough to work with :)

Lenny keywords

Not much to photograph for this post as I typed it all up on my laptop, but here are the two decks I’m currently working with, a German version of the French Cartomancy deck and Under the Roses. I’m in the middle of giving them edge treatments :)

To make my list I basically copied the one from the activity post, edited it and removed some words, and then I looked in the UtR booklet and ended up adding a few more. Heh. Hopefully it’s not too many to learn…
