First Lenormand Reading!

Yay! So I did my first lenormand reading for myself a couple days ago, a Grand Tableau, which is... a lot. It wasn’t an amazing reading for myself, but it wasn’t totally terrible, either, which, for a first reading in a new medium, is AWESOME! That ANY of it made sense at all is pretty freaking exciting and I can sort of see how it’s supposed to be coming together and that is incredible!!!  I had not heard anyone discuss charged/key cards before, and I definitely see how that makes a huge difference, especially when using 36 cards. I had bought the Linestrider Lenormand thinking it was going to be a more “standard” deck, but apparently it has a few alternative cards in it - “The Ways” is now “Crossroads” and “The Scythe” is now “Scissors.” I have an extra “Female” card, a Broom card, and a Butterfly card. I THINK the Kickstarter version also came with an extra “male” card, but I ONLY have a “Male” card and no “Man” card (but I have both a “Female” card and a “Woman” card).  So after having a vague grip on the “standard” 36, I’m going to have to figure out what’s going on with the Butterfly and Broom cards, too. And also if they’re supposed to be just added to the rest of the cards or used as alternatives to other cards. I pretty much don’t know anything and that’s really neat.  I am still a little frustrated with the book I got because it did open with saying how Lenormand is NOT like Tarot and that it’s important to not try to learn Lenormand based of Tarot reading, but it is literally teaching Lenormand by demonstrating how it contrasts or is different from Tarot and I just wish it wouldn’t do that. For one, I don’t read tarot like the authors do, and also if they think it’s important for Lenormand and Tarot to be treated separately (and *I* do) then they should quit teaching Lenormand like it’s a variation or deviation off a tarot base.

Lenormand as a cartomancy system is so much more literal than Tarot! The main thing I had to learn (or unlearn) when trying my hand at Lenormand, was not to look for layers beneath layers! Instead I find that the first thing that comes to mind when you see the cards is usually the right one – go with your gut, but should you get stuck, here are some keywords to help you on your way!

Day 1: Opening reading! Lay out cards however you chose and look at them from the question of how do you think spending this month with Lenormand is going to help you. Don’t worry about “getting it right,” just dive in! My arms are not long enough to get the whole tableau in shot.... Major thoughts : if I put the work in to this, it will be popular. I can overcome any negativity from others. The row representing what's in my past tells me that I may have been a little hasty in agreeing to do this, especially with how popular this may prove to be,but but I can rely on my wisdom flowing. The clear side of The Clouds is facing my signifier, and this is in my future. That's always a good sign for a new enterprise. Other than the snake, my signifier is a good distance from most of the cards I like to avoid, such as, The Cross, The Mice. I'm fairly close to The Coffin, but the covered side is facing my card, so it's effect is muted. Apologies for the rubbish picture, it's taken on my phone. Happy Lenormarch everyone!
