by far my favorite type of video to watch on youtube is first-person walking tours (and sometimes boat or driving tours) in random places. no commentary just ambient sounds. sometimes they include optional commentary in the subtitles which is also lovely. i often put them on as background noise, but i also like to just watch them. rember when they launched google streetview? back in the olden times? this is literally that but in motion and with sound. it's the same appeal. experiencing a place without being there. it still blows my mind. like... what a time to be alive.
#this is gonna sound so pathetic but sometimes i fantasize about starting my own channel#i live in the most boring place but then again i especially like the super niche ones#like ill watch a driving along copacabana video#or exploring ravello on foot#but i get really excited about the non touristy stuff#yes show me the 8k footage of your commute in guangzhou#show me the stores in fucking. podgorica#the other day i watched one from valparaiso in chile#which i guess is also kind of touristy#but not a place i know anything about#and they walked across a big square#with a beautiful market and i had so much fun looking at all the different stalls and all the random stuff they were selling#and sometimes i find myself on wikipedia reading about plaza sotomayor and learning and expanding my horizon#like. is it a perfect substitute for the real thing? of course not#but as someone who currently doesn't have#*googles*#€1500 to fly to chile on a whim#i feel so lucky to have this opportunity#its just wonderful to be able to see the place virtually#and it just really blows my mind that this is a thing you can do now#hello? hello!#can anyone hear me#the world is so large and beautiful#we forget that it is#but it's true
