by far my favorite type of video to watch on youtube is first-person walking tours (and sometimes boat or driving tours) in random places. no commentary just ambient sounds. sometimes they include optional commentary in the subtitles which is also lovely. i often put them on as background noise, but i also like to just watch them. rember when they launched google streetview? back in the olden times? this is literally that but in motion and with sound. it's the same appeal. experiencing a place without being there. it still blows my mind. like... what a time to be alive.

I love whoever’s writing my Doctor Who dreams, they do awesome things I’d never have come up with in a million years.

In this case it was just a few teaser clips of Susan trying to meet up with companions from the most classic to the newest. But we weren’t doing the stately woman in the TARDIS thing she had going, no, my brain-director went for the weird-girl she was introduced as, that sort of bright-eyed autistic girl who’s a little too autistic to be a (non-)manic pixie dreamgirl. Except she’s 80. It was raining in one of the scenes and it put her in this bright yellow raincoat over her more traditional stripey look, colourful as spring in contrast to grim reality, meeting old Polly in a park by carefully climbing over the low fence instead of taking the gate further down. Met Rose (possibly in the AU, this was meant to be a point of ‘huh that can’t be good’ for the audience) and Susan is the one who feels more ‘excited about the world and spacetime 19 year old’ of the two.

Instead of just going extrapolated to be older classic Susan, very much taking the original concept of the character and running it through the ‘weird alien girl’ lens again but this time a modern one, which gets you a positive, loveable, feels almost too-autistic to be doing this old lady. Incredible, daring, brave choice, you’ve done it again brain-director, thank you for expanding my ways of interpreting this story.
