Question! Please! Because I refuse to believe that Milo's family would actually leave him behind for making a mistake that almost any young child is in danger of making in the world of borrowers. *le crie*
I can see it as some sort of cruel superficial punishment whipped up between a few in the family; tying him up and making him believe that he was to be left to perish. Only to come back for him after a few hours. It would be a sure fire way to scare anyone into never making a dumb mistake again.
And seeing as they left him in a place out if sight they could have easily done that. Clearly he wasn't secured tightly enough to his spot though since he squirmed his way into plain view unintentionally.. The fault of the ones who binded him really.
Was the intention really to leave him there for death? I feel like that would be the cruelest thing. #JusticeForMilo
I loved the story btw I really want to read more, I want to see more of Ben struggling to take care of the bitty :D
Sorry babino, but it's true -- Milo's family really did leave him to die. In the world of borrowers, nothing is more essential to their secret survival than staying...well, a secret. To have one of their clan members endanger that by being caught is basically the number one treason they can commit.
If the homeowner had brushed it off or just bought a few mousetraps herself, they would maybe be more lenient with Milo, but it's the fact she called an exterminator and forced the colony to flee that basically sentenced him to death. It's the sacrifice of one for the survival of many, and it's also the risk borrowers have to take when they decide to have clumsy, noisy children.
They did do a shit job tying him up and leaving him for dead though, you're right lmao. And in fairness to his mother, she never realized he was left behind, she assumed he was in the care of his cousins and relatives (who were the ones that decided to punish him) and would be getting him out safely.
