It turned out that I was not dead, I realized, as I awoke suddenly inside a streetcar cabin. Like I was electrocuted, I shuddered; lurching forward with a deep breath as my lungs remembered how to work properly. I raised my hand and pressed it against my chest- my heart was beating rapidly, almost too unnaturally, but at least I was… alive. And heading somewhere. 

    There was a strange force to the side of me. I couldn’t explain it, but I knew that feeling. Of being stared at. Scrutinized. Senses came back rather quickly after I recognized the eyes on me- the velvet lined seat below me that my legs were extended on, and the cold metal of the cabin on my back. The sudden sunlight shining out from buildings rapidly passing us was the last to bring me back to reality. With a groan, I turned my head to the side, and met Montgomery’s eyes. His hands were folded on the table between us, and he was just… looking. And then he smiled. I did not return it. 

    “Well?” He prompted, voice uncomfortably still and demanding for the casual expression.
