I sort of agree. At least Amy and Rory have each other. The Doctor is once again alone and that is just so sad… Of course he has River, but they are too similar to travel together all the time, so he ends up going solo. Again.

This this this. I feel bad for the doctor, but I really do think it was, in general, a happy ending for them. Especially compared to what happened to some companions. At least they didn’t have their memory of the Doctor taken.
Yes, I'm not alone! I am devastated for the Doctor himself, of course, but the Ponds get to live their lies out with each other and that just makes me so happy. I was worried they'd be killed - I was SOO scared Rory would keel over and and Amy would leave the Doctor out of grief, and honestly? I only started crying when Amy climbed up on the ledge with Rory, and it was almost relief. I didn't WANT them to both die, obviously, but I'd rather them die together, in each others' arms, then one of them die alone. And then when all that happened was both getting trapped back in time? SO RELIEVED.
But I hope there isn't too much in-canon time passing between their departure and Jenna's character coming back on scene, because I don't think I could stand the Doctor being alone for very long.
