Great Gabriel characterization, great relationship development from zero, great "road trip through the post-apocalypse" vibes. The story explores Gabriel's relationship with V1 as well as Heaven, picking up from after Gabriel kills the Council as V1 learns how to use sign language! What makes this fic one of my favorites is Gabriel's voice and dialogue with V1, their conversations are so good. This is overall a light, fluffy, casual read, something to cuddle up with by the fire. As much as, you know, a pairing that involves a killing machine and a biblical angel can be.
Hellscreek by @megahertzmaroon (modern AU, funny GabV1el)
Gabriel runs a shop with Bible paraphernalia and spends the better part of his acquaintance with V1 pretending his air conditioner is broken so V1 will come fix it. Need I say more? (I will say more though) The writing is snappy, witty, and really immerses you in its world. You can tell the author has been honing their craft for a while: a well-developed voice, knows exactly what they want to say and says it without a word wasted. Probably the most impressive prose on this list, and one of the best and funniest modern AUs out there. Not to mention that the author is also a really good Ultrakill artist, hell they have their own comic!

By far the most visually creative fic here, one that takes full advantage of its medium, inspired by Dream's End Come True. I mean, it has its own website, that should tell you enough - color, alignment, animated text/UI like in-game, embedded artwork that bleeds into the page layout. Currently, the extent of the posted story has V1 wake to a strange world that it must navigate, strange yet lacking in the cruelty of Ultrakill... The prose is simple, sedate, pensive, matter-of-fact, as V1's POV usually is. Come for the cool mouse hover effects, stay for the dreamlike atmosphere that the text slowly lulls you into...

Really? You want the weirdo insane 21ge fanartist to condense everything I like about it into a few sentences of rational coherent thought instead of 5000 words of unintelligible raving? Haven't I spammed kiva enough? The things I do for my fellow Ultrakill brainrotters...
This fic is more like a slow-roast than a slow-burn - outrageously humorous most of the time, deeply moving at others, and quite long (181k words atm), but it's because 1) it's an epic with a juicy plot and 2) rather than a fic focused on the steamy romance, it's more about developing the themes, characters, and relationships found in Ultrakill itself, complete with backstories and worldbuilding.
Don't get me wrong, it is absolutely Gabriel x V1 fic and it has plenty of romance (I'd describe it as more like true connection), but through the story it rouses questions like, I dunno, how do you learn to live for yourself, how do you overcome a life ruled by fear and pragmatism, how can you come to trust others again? The kinds of themes that make us human. This is the fic that will teach you to be human. Don't take my word for it, check out the #21ge fic tag here on tumblr and the comment section of the fic.

Hiya!! It’s me the guy, for everyone still wondering about Hellscreek- it’s still going to be finished!! Though slow and I’m more preoccupied with school and other interests this fic means a lot to me!
