I wouldn't call myself an enjoyer of "toxic yuri" necessarily, because I find the way "toxic yuri" tends to get used is very... Limiting, and a lot of what people call "toxic yuri" is at best "complicated yuri but the reader has unaddressed misogyny problems". But I am big into what I like to call "hellyuri". "Hellyuri" is more of a vibe than anything else, I know it when I see it, but the basic definition is "yuri (and yuri-adjacents) that is emotionally challenging to experience due to the intensity of its subject matter". "Toxic yuri" implies a standard abuse dynamic (clear victim/clear perpetrator) while also feeling weirdly... trivializing about abuse, but "hellyuri" can have fucking anything in it. Examples include Our "Love" is Disgusting, Happy Sugar Life, School Live!.
