I saw a picture of a Helophilus Trivittatus and I thought it was maybe a type of wasp. I was wrong, this is no wasp. My drawing was inspired by a photography.

Narrow-headed Marsh Fly (Helophilus fasciatus)
Schiller Woods - Chicago, IL - May 15th, 2024
This fly is a type of Hoverfly or Syrphid Fly. Hoverflies are found on all continents except Antarctica, this specific species is only found in North America where it is native.
#2873 - Helophilus eristaloidea
A drone fly native to japan, the Korean peninsula, and adjacent regions. Bee-mimics, like the better-known Eristalis tenax. Most Helophilus species are yellow and black, although New Zealand's Helophilus hochstetteri and a few others are metallic blue, and a few are black and white.
Drone flies, unlike most other Hoverflies, have aquatic larvae that filter feed microorganisms from organic-rich water, and breath through a telescopic butt snorkel. Adults are nectar-feeders and polliators, and tend not to specialise on foodplant. Helophilus pendulus, seems to prefer white and yellow flowers, though.
Minatoirifunechō, Toyama, Japan
Hoverfly with pollen on its eyes.
The April woodlands have come alive with a variety of insects in search of food. Here a Narrow-headed Marsh Fly (Helophilus fasciatus) seeks a meal from a Sharp-lobed Hepatica (Anemone acutiloba).
Hélophile suspendu (Helophilus pendulus).
Hoverfly and flowers.
