So this WIP has been giving me a hard time and it just dawned on me today while I was driving home. I was trying to set it in a nebulous version of today, not necessarily 2019 but a post-smart phone world when actually the band at the center of the story is really and could only ever be a scene band. Like this whole thing needs to be set in 2005 or whatever with scene kids just crawling all over the place, that’s the only way this makes sense and works.
I wasn’t a scene kid though. I listened to their music but never committed to the look or the attitude or the myspace fame, so what I need are some good research resources. I know this is all kind of fresh so probably no one is publishing academic books on it like they are on 1980s British punk, but there’s got to be something out there.
Follow up: When reading a fiction story set in a specific time/place, does it immerse you more or take you out to have specific, real life things mentioned even if they don’t necessarily effect the plot. Like, should I have this band mention playing Warped Tour by name, or is it better to use a fictional name even though the reference is obvious?
I'm writing a Klance bodyguard au
But I want your guys input! I just have 2 questions:
1. If lance was an actor, what kinds of movies do you think he would be known for?
2. If lance was a singer, what kind of music do you think he would sing?
Thanks guys! I'm just kind of brainstorming at this point.
So here's a question followers. If you could have me write more of any AU/drabble/oneshot/fanslide that I've written....what would it be? Sometimes getting interest for more of something gives me motivation to work on it. I could use any motivation I can find at this point.
Most of these should be under the random fic tag or fanslide tag. Anything else may just be lost in the depths of my blog due to the fact that I suck at keeping organized. Oops.
One more question: what is your all time favorite dessert, if you can have anything, as super simple or ultra fancy as you'd like?
Help me with some world building!
Help I graduated high school over 10 years ago and I can't remember much of the day to day details anymore and I know most of you kiddos are still in school soooooo.... I need to know things like is home room still a thing? How many students are in an average class? You guys all have cell phones now don't you (that was not yet a thing when I was in school. I didn't get my own cell until I was a sophomore in college). What's the policy with cell phones usually? Is everything still terrible and clique-y? Are girls still catty and bitchy? Are boys still clueless idiots? How does shit like cyber bullying factor in now? Again, Facebook wasn't even a thing until way after I graduated OTL BASICALLY TELL ME ABOUT YOUR LIVES AS AMERICAN TEENS OR SOMETHING OR MY COMIC IS GOING TO LOOK SO DUMB???
I need caffeine to wake me up, and maybe alcohol would make writing a smidge easier.
