"Helping Paws, a local org that trains assistance dogs, confirms the Hortman’s family dog Gilbert died in the attack. Melissa was set to train him, but he became family instead. Helping Paws is starting a fund in their honor."

I know the Meme is supposed to be funny, and it is, in the right moment.
But, in all actuality this post is very true too.
Guinea Pigs have become very popular as Therapy pets. Not everyone has the space for a dog or a cat, what we generally think of as helping pets.
Over the last couple of years we have rehomed many pigs to us humans who need the comfort of an animal, to feel safe and calm.
I am not going to go into any specifics. Privacy is key on my page, but I am thrilled at the amount of messages I get, sharing with me how their family piggy has helped in their own personal lives.
Guinea pigs are well set up to be great Therapy Pets. They are Interactive with us. They need us, they give us a reason to get up each day. They are content to sit on our laps and munch on veggies while we stroke them and love on them. If you are really lucky, some give piggies kisses.
I personally talk to my pigs each day. Does that make me crazy? I don’t think so, I think they are a safe outlet and I always feel calm and relaxed when I am with them.
Many people need Therapy Pets for many different reasons. Some reasons we can see and some we cannot, but the need is no less.
I love hearing how your pigs have helped you in your life. If anyone wishes to share a picture of their Therapy Piggy, please do in the comments. I would love to give each of those piggies a hug. [Facebook]
They are the forgotten heroes in many people’s lives. It’s not just cats and dogs that can help us humans. It’s all animals.
