With the weather getting a little warmer it seemed like a good idea for an outing to put Raine’s metal detector to use. It had been a gift for the holidays after all, and with both the crystallization of the city and the cold temperature, she had yet to test it out on anything other than the pots and pans in her kitchen. Raine showed up to Kourindou early that morning lugging a packed lunch, her staff and the device in tow, reminiscent of her very first trip to the shop. She was used to being overprepared, and so somehow she managed.

After greetings, Rinnosuke piled everything into a small cart and they went on their way back to the carriages, waiting for one wide enough to accommodate their luggage. Raine scouted this spot on the beach of Cotes beforehand, and it wasn’t too far of a walk from the start of the road to Mistwood from the city. It was off season, and if people wanted to go to the beach they typically aimed for Golden Ward where one didn’t have to trudge through the forests to get there, so it would prove to be a quiet day. Thank goodness, for the past month was exhausting.

Uh oh. There was one slight miscalculation. Looking out into the Swirling Gulf, Raine could feel her blood pressure rising and the fear set in. It would be fine, she told herself. They were on the shore. Even still, the look of discomfort on her face was evident as she looked into whirlpools, flying fish, and tossing waves. As she had always done, she attempted to appear much braver than she was and kept walking forward.

“R-right then... Shall we go?”

   “ pardon me! ”   coco calls out, landing fairly close to the one she alerts of her incoming presence.  that should have been the end of it really, but when her feet hit the ground and the last remnants of wind disperse from beneath her shoes, she feels a sudden jolt of pain.  she wobbles in place, her legs shaky.  to lose her balance after flying was new.  usually, it’s during flight.  she’d been warned depending on her shoes too much would lead her thighs to ache.  she’d never think it would hurt quite this much though.  even so, she reaches a hand to grasp at her thigh and feigns a smile.

   “ eheh...  sorry about that--  it seems like my legs are a bit sore... ”

@helpingthelongrain​ mysterious inventory keeps appearing send help

It’d been happening on and off for the past few weeks.  Rinnosuke would find new items mysteriously appearing, seemingly without a trace or reason.  Shadow wasn’t sure if Rinnosuke had even really noticed the mysterious stock, but it was just a fun activity to pass the time on his way home.

It didn’t take much effort to break into the back of the store, despite the windows, he would just maneuver around in the darkness until he found an opening he could get in through without being detected.

Once in, Shadow rummaged through his pockets to haphazardly place items of varying quality throughout the stock.  It all would’ve gone without a hitch if Shadow didn’t trip on his own foot, and slam back into some merchandise, causing a loud crash, which would surely catch the shopkeep’s attention.

Maybe that horseshoe wasn’t so lucky after all...

This shop was certainly out in the middle of nowhere...but that’s sort of what made it exciting! It was like a secret place to find hidden treasure. Mariela often went to Mistwood to pick herbs for her potions so she figured that she would pop into this place to see if she could find anything useful here. She learned of it as a suggestion from one of the women who liked to buy her soaps. Knowing it was a far ride back to Golden Ward she refrained from collecting herbs today, leaving room inside of her potato-sack bag for any useful appliances she might buy here at Kourindou. While she still couldn’t make as many potions as she wanted, they were a hit with guardsmen and adventurers so she’d made enough to get herself a present today. 

Mariela tried to find the clerk among the rows of shelves here, but soon became distracted by a stand mixer. Though it looked a little different than the brand they made in the Labyrinth city she knew it must have the same function. Caroline had taught her that this was much easier to make her sweets with rather than knead-knead-kneading all of that dough for hours. Though she found the effort meditative, she also needed the time to put her alchemy skills to use. It was going to take a lot of work to open her shop on her own again!

Reines hadn’t been by to visit her neighbour since Hallowe’en, if she recalled correctly. Planning for the next holiday and shopping alongside running her own store had kept her quite busy, and that was ignoring the spare time she spent with those of her own world.

Not to worry! She politely knocked on the door to announce her visit (largely due to having been told she didn’t need to), small box of gingerbread cookies in hand from her time playing experimenting with the Build-A-Gingerbread Man station the other day. A polite gift that just so happened to keep them from going to waste at home.

“You’re familiar to me. Are you perhaps...” She has his name on the tip of her tongue; she recalls him, of course. And it’ll be rather awkward, at the moment, but even still, there’s a fondness in there. There’s a sense of longing mixed in with bafflement and confusion.  “Morichika Rinnosuke-san?” There, in Cotes Ward, she’d found him.

Ogata’s always been a man of few words but also even fewer text messages. Whenever he sent one there was always a reason. The message that Rinnosuke would receive that morning was short and to the point.

And if Rinnosuke read it as it came there were no more than perhaps five minutes or so before a loud knock sounded from Kourindou’s door.

Curious Curiosities [Rinnosuke & Svin]

Svin hadn’t expected to find anything out towards the woods. With the overwhelmingly strange and large city crowded with new scents that almost blinded him, he needed something calm, some fresh air. Perhaps his feet had steered him this way for the allure of the softer scented cherry trees— a soft gold, that’s what they smelled like.

He stopped under the trees and glanced around. there didn’t seem to be anyone else near this shop, would the owner mind a visitor? Something else drew him in... something he couldn’t place.

The door creaked as Svin pushed it open and peered in. He knew bits and pieces about Japanese history, enough to know that many items his eyes alighted on appeared to be genuine and well made, not tacky or swindling bait. He relaxed and blinked, taking it all in and so focused he almost didn’t notice the shopkeep.

Oh, the shopkeep! Svin turned his attention toward him and gave a shy slight bow.

“Oh, hello! I’m just stopping in, I wasn’t aware there were any buildings out here.” It was the shopkeeper who he was drawn to, something so familiar about him. Ah, that was it. He reminded Svin of his own teacher, minus some smoke and savory.

“What’s your name?” Svin smiled a bit. “You remind me of someone, is all.” Not in looks, but in impression, spirit.
