Monks, land and symbols: Yannick Cormier
This series of photographs were taken this summer in Ladakh when I gave a workshop with my friends from Travelling Lens. The main challenge was to stay focused on the final result while I travelled with a group as I usually travel alone. The idea for this photo essay came from the first picture I took in Leh, offering an atmosphere rather than a mood, more than just another travel report on the Himalayas.
Young Buddhist monks seemed to be a good starting point and there is this indescribable energy that comes from the mountains.
But in Ladakh, this is not just Buddhism. It is also a region with natural beauty as grand and wild, a true “altitude desert” where huge cliffs, without any trace of vegetation and valleys dominated by mountains at 6000 meters.
