Polish Poster School 🇵🇱
– a definition of the trend in poster art in Poland, covering the period from the late 1940s to the late 1980s. The characteristic feature of the Polish poster school was its non-subordination to both the doctrine of socialist realism and commercial demands, the use of simplified graphic forms, brevity and expressiveness, and innovative typography.
The pioneer of the Polish poster school is considered to be Henryk Tomaszewski (1914-2005), who at the International Film Poster Exhibition in Vienna in 1948 received five first prizes for his works.
The political leadership of the Polish People's Republic soon realized that the application of the doctrine of socialist realism in posters did not produce the expected results and granted artists creative freedom.
Young Polish poster artists achieved international recognition.
