I had the extreme pleasure to watch the showcase presentation of Icarus: A New Play on March 30th, 2013 at the Henson Carriage House. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful this presentation was. The puppetry, music, acting, even the space in which the presentation was held, all combined together to form a beautiful piece of artwork that I was privileged to see. This one hour presentation showed a condensed version of the play, showing the audience the full plot of the play, but only giving a taste of the puppetry and magic within the entire piece. The sequence in which Pasephae goes to find her Minotaur son in the Labyrinth sounded especially magical and I hope to see a fully staged production in the future.
And yes, I couldn't stop giggling at each mention of a 'Labyrinth.' This may or may not have been due to the fact that the evening had been put together with help from a grant by the Jim Henson Foundation. Though their IndieGoGo campaign had finished, the video above gives a great overview of the project and shows you a sneak peek at some of the puppets used throughout the piece.
