My Favorite Music

It’s not a song I can play on repeat it’s not on the radio not on a playlist not something you can buy

It’s your laugh

The way it starts like a question like the first notes of a melody testing the air then grows into something unstoppable and warm

I chase it I stumble through stupid jokes awkward impressions bad puns anything to hear the sound spill out of you

Sometimes it’s soft like wind in the trees other times it’s wild like a storm crashing through my chest

And I catch myself memorizing it tracing it in my mind so I can play it even when you’re not there

Your laugh is music I can’t tire of a rhythm that makes the world feel lighter like it bends just to fit us in

And I realize if I could I’d spend forever learning how to make it start again

Because nothing else matters more than that one sound my favorite music alive in you
