this is the dumbest fucking thing i’ve seen in my life but i knew someone would try to argue this at some point.
Hyuna has been promoting CONTINUOUSLY for 10 YEARS, first with the wonder girls, then with 4minute and as a solo/part of troublemaker/365 fresh. Since 2009 she has promoted at least two songs a YEAR.
She was one of the most popular members (if not the most popular) in the wonder girls and when she withdrew following Irony promotions it created a big scandal. In 2009 she returned as part of 4minute and promoted two songs (Muzik & Hot Issue) . In 2010 she promoted two songs with 4minute (I My Me Mine & Huh) as well as debuting as a solo (Change). From 2009-2010 she was also a fixed cast member on Invincible Youth. In 2011 she promoted two songs with 4minute (Heart to Heart, Mirror Mirror) one song as a solo (Bubble Pop) and one song as a unit (Troublemaker). Troublemaker and Bubble Pop were ofc massive hits. In 2012 she promoted one song with 4minute (Volume Up) and one as a solo (Ice Cream). She also appeared in Psy’s Gangnam Style which was obviously a global smash and later released her own version of the song (Oppa is Just My Style) which has over 700m views. In 2013 she released two songs with 4minute (What’s My Name?, Is It Poppin’) and one song with Troublemaker (Now). In 2014 she promoted one song with 4minute (Whatcha Doing Today?) and one as a solo (Red). In 2015 she promoted one song with 4minute (Crazy) and one as a solo (Roll deep). In 2016 she promoted her last song with 4minute (Hate) who later disbanded and one as a solo (How’s This?). In 2017 she promoted three songs, two as a solo (Babe, Lip n Hip) and one as a new unit (365 fresh). That makes for a total of 25 promotional cycles over 10 years.
Sunmi promoted 4 hit songs with the wonder girls (Irony, Tell Me, So Hot, Nobody) from 2007-2009 before withdrawing to focus on her studies. In 2013 she returned as a solo (24 Hours). In 2014 promoted a solo comeback (Full Moon). In 2015 she promoted one song with the Wonder Girls (I Feel You). In 2016 she promoted her last song with the Wonder Girls (Why So Lonely) who later disbanded. In 2017 she released Gashina which was a massive hit. That’s 9 promotional cycles over 10 years.
Hyuna has promoted nearly three times as many songs as Sunmi in the same time period. When Hyuna was at her most successful (2011-2012) Sunmi was on hiatus. Although Hyuna’s career is still going incredibly strong, she is over-exposed in comparison to Sunmi. Sunmi took a (well-deserved) break before returning as solo and has a few more years of promotion left before people start saying they’re bored of her.
tl;dr just because Hyuna’s career is slowing down while Sunmi’s is at its peak doesn’t erase Hyuna’s legacy as one of the most successful female idols of all time and to suggest otherwise is blatant historical revisionism and clickbait
