The grandsons of Aegina and the Aristos Achaions
So we all know, Patroclus, lover and best friend of Achilles, is the grandson of the nymph Aegina. He is also from the land of Opus in Locris which is a home not only shared by him. This is also the home of Abderus from the story of Heracles’ 8th labor in subduing the cannibal mares of Diomedes.
FUN FACT, Abderus was stated by Photios I of Constantinople to be the brother of Patroclus. Son of Menoetius and grandson of Aegina.
Abderus was the lover of Heracles who entrusted him with the cannibal horses while he pursued Diomedes’ army. When he returned, he found his beloved Abderus was eaten by the horses on Diomedes’ command. Enraged, Heracles fed Diomedes to the cannibal mares and founded the city, Abdera, in honor of Abderus.
Both Achilles and Heracles were the aristos achaions of their time. Lort that Aegina bloodline has a thing for demi-gods.
