[The very mildest of TDKR spoilers] Bane of the Demon, for here-is-the-place
[Message screencapped so it could be placed under a cut]
Wow. This is such a touching message to receive. I'm so happy that I've done something positive and useful with my fanramblings.
Bane of the Demon is, as I've said in some previous posts even prior to the movie, one of my favorite stories because I love Bane and the idea of him being involved with the al Ghuls is exciting. Chuck Dixon writes all these characters extremely well, and Talia, until the end of the miniseries, is featured prominently. If you're not already aware, though, I should warn you that the miniseries does take place during a very dark time in Bane's life, and while the mini itself doesn't explore that darkness, it does depict him sexually threatening someone. His relationship with Talia in this comic, while it does have some similar moments to TDKR, takes an opposite turn from what happened in the film.
The story is part of a larger Bane-centric plot. It's collected along with another story from that plotline in the trade Batman vs. Bane, which your brother's shop might have (it was recently released) if he doesn't have the single issues. Other Bane-centric stories are Batman: Knightfall (which takes place before these events) and Batman: Legacy, which I think has been re-released recently.
I'm not sure what I've done that your brother hasn't, but I'm glad it happened. Happy reading! I hope you enjoy Bane - he's one of the greatest comics villains of all time, in my opinion, and I'm so happy to see him get such a powerful treatment in TDKR.
[TDKR spoilers] RE: "This is bothering me a bit", from here-is-the-place

Thanks! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who's finding some (not all) of the complaints about the Talia and Bane plot. I had a few terrified moments when I doubted that Miranda was Talia during the film (my best friend tells me she could see me visibly sinking and looking miserable for about 20 minutes), but when Bane took her hostage, I was thinking "this better go somewhere good because if this woman just exists to be a hostage, I'm going to be so. disgustingly. sick. If Miranda hadn't been Talia, then it would have seemed that the entire purpose of her character was just to be the vulnerable woman in the situation.
By the time Bane first made mention of her (I believe it was when Gordon had been sentenced to "death...by exile!", God bless Jonathan Crane, and the line was something to the effect of "Bring her to me"), I was sure Miranda was Talia again. The line, as I suspected, was really Bane just telling the League guy to go ahead and separate Talia from the other hostages so she can just be out of her ruse for a while. (Personally, I like to imagine that once Talia was separated, she and Bane just went and chilled together because they are the best friends ever.) But if Miranda hadn't been Talia, the line would have been what it superficially appeared to be -- this brutal man threatening the woman. It would have been cheap, and nothing the audience hasn't seen a hundred times before.
The mindfuck reminded me of what Grant Morrison has done with Talia recently. As she herself says in Batman Inc., no one ever suspects that she's behind the greatest villainous plots. As a fan of female villains (though I prefer ambivalent Talia), I have to say that I think the reveal only strengthened the story.
Thanks for your message! I'm so flattered!
here-is-the-place replied to your post: EXAM TOMORROW! Studying/miserable til then. Wish me luck!
Good luck sweetie!
