b. This conversation is just too easy. We are both going to rant about things. I can tell you how it turns out. Want to hear?

a. Sure.

b. Basically what will happen is that we are going to talk for a very long time about how the world has gone to shit in very specific ways. The reason that we would do this is because we acknowledge the fact that it is happening, which makes it better than pretending it isn't, even though we can't do anything concrete about it because of the learned behavior of our peers and overall species. So by talking about it we think we are making a difference, even though we are just agreeing with each other and not really changing anything.

a. Yes, but -

b. I know what you are going to say. Seriously, it's pointless.

a. Can't you just humor me for one second?

b. Yeah, ok.

a. The world is going to shit. I don't know how to fix it, and it scares me.

b. Yep.

a. So what are you betting on?

b. Some kind of social or environmental apocalypse, or the Singularity.

a. That sounds about right.

b. The implications of any and all of those are also terrifying.

a. So..

b. Yep, all the options that are possible have an inevitable side of terror attached to them.
