From Forests to Flutes: The Art of Distilling Mahura Spirits
South Seas Distilleries proudly presents Six Brothers Mahura (Mahua), India’s first luxury heritage spirit and a new category in the world of spirits. Six Brother Mahura ( Mahua ) combines centuries of tradition with the sophistication of double distilling in copper pot stills and modern innovation like platinum filtration. The journey of the Mahura flower from the forests of India to its final form in an elegant bottle is a story of legacy, dedication, craftsmanship and deep respect for India’s culture, heritage and spirit making history.
The story of Mahura begins in the dense forests of the Central belt of India, where the Mahura (Mahua) Tree grows and flowers bloom once a year during spring. This unique flower, native only to this region, is the heart and soul of Six Brothers Mahura. The Mahura (Mahua) flower has been used for rituals and celebrations by the Royals, locals and tribal communities for millennia, Unlike other spirits, Mahura is made from a flower which gives it a distinct flavour and aroma, and it tastes like no other spirit in the world, setting it apart from global counterparts like Tequila, Gin, Cognac, etc.
The Fermentation, Distillation and Filtration Process
The magic of Mahura lies not just in the flower but in the meticulous process that follows. At South Seas Distilleries, the process begins with selecting the best Mahura (Mahua) flowers, hand-harvested during the spring season by the local communities from the forests. These flowers then dry naturally. The dry Mahura ( Mahua) flowers are naturally sweet and are high in natural sugar content. These dried flowers are first fermented. This fermented wash is then double distilled in copper pot stills by South Seas Distilleries just like their single malt – Crazy Cock The Single Malt Whisky. This process is key to the rich spirit’s smooth floral, earthy and spicy undertones, capturing the essence of nature’s bounty. Six Brother Mahura (Mahua) is further platinum-filtered to give it a crisp and clean finish.
The Craftsmanship Behind Every Bottle
Creating Six Brothers Mahura is not just about following a process; it’s about preserving a tradition, legacy, heritage, craftsmanship and distilling wisdom that has been passed down through four generations. As India’s oldest malt distillers and the first commercial distillers of Mahura, their commitment to sustainable sourcing, sophisticated methods of distillation, modern innovation and unparalleled craftsmanship ensures that this ancient traditional spirit from India continues to thrive in today’s world.
