Pairing: Hermes × Reader Theme: Surprise reunion, playful teasing, romantic tension Warnings: Light cursing, fluster, kissing Word Count: ~1,200
You walked alone through the quiet stone corridors of Olympus, the soft echo of your footsteps the only sound. Hermes had been gone for weeks missions, orders, chaos you barely knew anymore.
What you did know was one thing:
You missed him. Terribly.
Too many nights spent staring at the sky, waiting for a streak of silver wings. Too many moments reaching for a hand that wasn't there.
You rubbed your arms, trying to steady your thoughts when suddenly a cold breath brushed the back of your neck.
“You should really lock your doors better,” a voice whispered.
You spun instantly, drawing your dagger and thrusting your arm out toward the empty air.
“WHO’S THERE?”
Air shimmered like heat over sand then, in a ripple of golden light, Hermes appeared right where your weapon pointed… glittering grin and all.
“Wow,” he said, hands raised in surrender. “Is that how you greet all handsome gods, or am I just special?”
Your heart slammed against your ribs. “Hermes! By Zeus You can’t just scare me like that!”
He lifted his brows with that annoying sweet smirk.
“Oh? I thought you liked surprises.”
You didn’t know if you wanted to slap him or hug him… maybe both.
“I didn’t even know you were BACK!” Your voice cracked, betraying every emotion you’d tried to hide.
Hermes glanced away, suddenly less cocky. “Well… that’s kind of the point. I was testing a little trick ” He wiggled his fingers smugly. “Invisibility. Turns out I’m very good at spying.”
“Spying?” you repeated, stepping closer. “Or avoiding me?”
His eyes widened guilt flickered. “You think I’d avoid you?”
Hermes took a slow step forward. Then another.
The distance between you was now a single breath.
“I would cross every realm just to see your smile,” he murmured. “To hear your laugh again.”
Your chest tightened. “Then why didn’t you come sooner?”
He exhaled, the truth falling from him like confession:
“Because missing you hurts more when you’re right in front of me.”
For a moment, neither of you moved. Your dagger dropped from your fingers. His gaze flicked to your lips.
You didn’t think. Didn’t plan.
You simply grabbed Hermes by the collar and crashed your mouth into his.
He froze a stunned half-second then kissed you back so fiercely it stole every breath you had left.
His hands cupped your face, thumbs brushing your cheeks like he was relearning them. Wings fluttered frantically behind him, as if his heart was beating too fast to stay still.
When you finally pulled back foreheads touching, breaths trembling he whispered a shaky laugh:
“So that’s what I get for sneaking around.”
You punched his chest lightly. “That’s what you get for disappearing.”
Hermes wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you against him, voice lower serious in a way that felt new:
“I won’t vanish again. Not from you.”
You smiled, fingers sliding into his hair.
“You’d better not. Because next time…”
Hermes smirked, leaning in. “Next time you’ll kiss me sooner?”
“No,” you whispered against his lips. “Next time I’ll throw you off Olympus.”
He laughed the kind of laugh that made your heart feel safe again and kissed you one more time.
