Sept. 11 - every year since 2001

I dread this day every year. And avoid social media. I must be the only person that doesn't want to re-watch the videos of the planes hitting the towers again, as if watching it again will keep me from forgetting...which is apparently a bad thing. I couldn't possibly forget, it's burned into my brain, though I wish I could. Burned into my brain as well are the images of people jumping out of buildings, people covered in soot trying to figure out what was going on, people running, people helping, piles of rubble with the sounds of the firefighters locators going off amongst it all...Sept. 11, I don't want to think about you, or re-watch the horrors of that day over and over again every year. The survivors of that day and the ones that did not survive will forever be in my thoughts, not just on Sept. 11. The fact that our government had to be fought, tooth and nail for years, for payments for the survivors and the heroes that helped in the aftermath and were left with a range of health issues will always stay with me as well. Also the outright racism and Islamaphobia that followed, and continue to haunt our country today, was, and always will be, unacceptable and not something that should represent this country of ours, though it does. This country of ours is a country of immigrants, built by immigrants and run by immigrants whether anyone likes it or not. So I'll be offline today. In remembrance, forgettance (which isn't a word), whatever...but NOT re-living that day any more than I would on a regular day because it was horrific, terrifying, immensely sad and beautiful (people helping people) and the repercussions of that day are with us still, in legislation, hearts and minds, intolerance and war...and always will be even without showing the videos every year etc. Signing off in a somber mood....
