Five 9/11-themed illos for NYPress, 9/01-12/02
You know what breaks my heart this morning...that my daughter will never know what it's like to see our country stand together united like we did on 9/11 and the days after. I was in 8th grade but I can still remember it all like it was yesterday. It’s unfortunate that it took such a horrific tragedy to make us all unite when we all are Americans to begin with.
I remember driving around trying to find an American flag and every store being sold out. I remember seeing every vehicle on the road with an American flag in the window, flapping in the wind. I remember seeing my fellow Americans come together, all walks of life, every religion, no matter their political beliefs...to stand united...to hug...to pray together...to support each other. I remember people rushing to sign up for the military. I remember people rushing to sign up to volunteer for cleanup in NY. The compassion of 9/11 I will never forget!
We need our leaders in Washington DC to STOP spreading hate and division, including the President. I'm talking about both Democrats and Republicans. Stop dividing this country for political control and power!
I pray for our nation. I am a Praying American 🙏 🇺🇲
(2 Chronicles 7:14)
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
Today we remember K-9 Sirius. I had met Sirius and had the opportunity to attend training with Officer Lim and his second K-9. Sirius, a four and a half year old yellow lab, was the only K9 killed in the September 11 attacks. Sirius was a member of the NY/NJ Port Authority Police Department and worked as an Explosives Detection Dog. He and his partner, Officer David Lim, were assigned to the Port Authority Police Station in the basement of the World Trade Center’s Tower Two, where he worked checking trucks and vehicles for explosives. Sirius became a member of the PAPD after he graduated from the Port Newark K9 Center on 07/15/2000 and wore PAPD Badge #17. #dogsfordefense #d4d #k9 #workingdog #policek9 #sept11 #papd (at Ground Zero - 911 Memorial Reflection Pools) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiXpUbOOetz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
We will never forget.
I WILL NEVER FORGET These men's names, their actions, the legacy they've left behind or the elected officials who left them all to die. Respect to those who made it out of there and home to their family's and friends and more so, that they could tell their tale to the world. #Benghazi #Sept11 #TyroneWoods #GlenDoherty #ChrisStevens #SeanSmith #Remember (at Libya Benghazi) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTtBv4XLaVf/?utm_medium=tumblr
