She is Cere

In the mirror, she sees herself reflected across time.

She sees herself in the library at GEARS university. Maya’s there with her. They’re surrounded by books; alternating between studying for an upcoming exam and working on several essays. The computer next to her is running simulations for a new iteration of mana drive. She hopes that this iteration will solve the ongoing compatibility issues with Katana class Mecha.

The image changes and she sees herself in the Falconreach Libraseum. She’s once again surrounded by books. She is writing a letter to the king, detailing the history of magic in the kingdom and its importance to the cultures and peoples of Greenguard. She hopes to convince him to stop supporting the Rose. A letter from Maya sits next to her. She’ll open it after she finishes the letter.

She watches the image change many times more, each time showing a different life that she once lived, before she eventually decides to look away.

There are things she needs to do. She shouldn’t let herself be distracted.

As she leaves the library, a book from Skye catches her eye. A record of the uses of energy magic, ranging from its use by healers to its uses in necromancy and divination. She resists the urge to sit down and read it. The carriage to Thelima is waiting for her. Maya is waiting for her.
