The last and possibly the saddest story of the women on the Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice. Alice Denman was with her five children when Arthur Rogers, who rented the shop on the ground floor of the building, ran in to tell her his shop was on fire. Alice and Arthur managed to get of the children, four year old Percival and eight year old Lillian, out through the roof to a neighbouring building, before Arthur passed out. By this time news of the fire had led to other neighbours coming to help, including Arthur Regelous, who managed to get in to the building to help. Sadly there was nothing anyone could do, Arthur Regelous was last seen at a window, shouting for help. Alice was last seen with her three month old daughter Winifred in her arms. They perished along with Alice's other children, Charles and Ethel, and a lodger named Alice Biggs. #womenshistorymonth #womeninhistory #Memorial #HeroicSelfSacrifice #fire #London #tragedy
