Thoughts after interviewing for teaching positions...
I used to really be nervous, or intimidated rather, when interviewing for teaching positions. But I recently realized that I have just as much a right to grill leadership members as they do to grill me. Of course all of the good questions come to me afterwards! But I am definitely recording these questions for reference next time I apply to work at a school (even though I don’t plan to work in the same capacity next time I apply to a school, I still have some questions for leadership):
I want to know how long they taught in a classroom similar to the environment in which they are the principal of.
I want to know what is their motivation for working with Black students (this is the only demographic I see myself working with for the near and far future). *this question is specific to white members of leadership*
I want to know how they build relationships with their staff and students.
I want to know when was the last time they had a difficult situation with a teacher/staff member, how they addressed the situation, and what was the outcome.
I want to know what are the key factors in assessing the success/growth of their teachers.
I want to know what was the most difficult piece of feedback they have received and how they responded to it.
