Here’s a not so secret fact about me, ice cream is my biggest weakness.  I’ve been to countless ice cream places in my lifetime, I’ve even had authentic gelato in Italy, but no place beats Steve Herrell’s in Northampton mass.  I’ve been to this place many times since I was little and have never had anything less than an amazing experience.  I’ve tried giving other ice cream places a chance but…

The Best Ice Cream on the Planet

Herrell's Ice Cream is the best ice cream on the planet. I can't speak for other planets since I have not visited many. But I can say quite confidently, there is no better ice cream on Earth.

What makes it so?

There are several aspects of Herrell's which makes it a universally unique ice cream experience:

The restaurant

The service

The actual ice cream

The Restaurant

The branch of Herrell's which I have visited on numerous occasions is located in downtown Northampton, just off of Main St.  In the window are two life-size brown bears (which, by the way are often spotted in Northampton, poking around for quality ice cream sundaes) having enormous milkshakes and ice cream sundaes. The bears are more than just plastic mascots sitting in the window of the store; their presence is felt as much as any of the other customers. You know what they say, don't get between a mother bear and her sundae.

On the door, the store's hours are printed as such:

Tuesdae:..

Etc.

I thought that was adorable.

And for the final flourish, once inside the shop a glass case featuring children's illustrations of their various ice cream adventures meets the eye, just before the long line of customers, who are willing to wait because they know Herrell's is worth their time.

The Service

Ice cream scooping-experts meet the Herrell's customer with a bright smile, offering various flavors and toppings which are all, of course, mouthwatering even from a distance. They know what it's like to want ice cream. They've been there.

The Actual Ice Cream

Anyone who has tasted Herrell's competitor's products will agree that Herrell's ice cream is on a totally different level. The rich, creamy texture is satisfying every moment it lingers on your tongue, and long afterwards. The flavors - can you count how many flavors? They're endless! They come up with new ones all the time. And for the lactose sensitive who secretly eat ice cream anyway - there's frozen yogurt  too! The crunch of M&Ms and sprinkles complement the smooth cold creaminess to perfection. And the hot fudge is exclusive. I spend lots of time wishing I had the recipe.
