HERS Rater Exam Questions
I was taking the HERS Rater certification training course through EVERBLUE a few weeks ago. Even though the training was pretty good, we weren't given sample HERS Rater Exam questions until the last day of the course, which was also the day we took the test itself. Can you imagine not knowing the structure of the exam until the day I actually took the test. Needless to say I was a bit concerned and so I went straight to Google to find resources for studying. It took a while to find anything of note, such as a promising site for HERS rater exam questions.
I ended up spending a lot of time studying the power point slides that were distributed during the training course. Somewhat surprisingly the HERS rater exam focused a lot on building science and not as much on the standards as I was expecting. If you have already taken BPI courses in the past it might be helpful to review any practice test questions from there.
The basic structure of the HERS rater exam is 50 multiple choice questions that you have to finish in 2 hours. Sounds simple enough, but of course questions can always be written in ways to trick you. The HERS exam has some of that and it definitely helps to read each question carefully, try to come up with an answer, and only then go on to reading the multiple choices. I found some additional tips on HERSRATEREXAM.com, along with some building science flash cards. I kind of wish they had already uploaded the sample online quizzes by the time I took the test, but no such luck.
EVERBLUE came through in the end and I studied hard, probably more than I should have. If I had some practice tests to gauge my knowledge and estimate the time it would take me to finish 50 questions, it would have saved me at least an hour a night. I passed with a 90+ score and am well on my way to completing my sample ratings. Just thought I'd share my experiences and hope it's been useful.
