hershey-chase experiment
- worked with T2 bacteriophage - virus that infects bacteria
- bacteriophage were radioactively labelled with P32 (DNA) or S35 (protein coat of bacteriophage)
- separate experiments found that bacteria contain the radioactively labelled P32 DNA of the bacteriophage
** bacteriophage injected their DNA into the host bacterium in order to produce progeny phage = DNA is genetic material!
