An extensive list of the sources I have found on Internet Archive
Last updated 9/26/25
It would be quite selfish of me to keep these to myself, wouldn't it? This list will be updated frequently, in accordance to what I have found. These were found while doing my own research for various topics, and taken from the bibliographies of many books. Some of these I will have cited in posts of mine, many others will not appear anywhere in my work. Mostly primary sources, but quite a few books make their appearance.
Sorted alphabetically by surname of author
*Some sources, for the sake of readability, have their title somewhat shortened and/or authors removed. In this case, the sourced author will be chosen according to reverse alphabetization, as this is how they are listed on the Archive

Now for my second offering to the season. A type of post that I have yet to see for one of my favorite horror movie villains.
(Tw under the cut for mild gore and flashing lights. I love the movie, but its impossible to find a fitting gif of my man with no lightning flashes 🥲)
The Headless Horseman/The Hessian Headcannons
My HC for his true name is Amalrich. It is an old German form of the name Amalric, which according to this website, is from the Visigothic name Amalareiks, derived from the Gothic element amals meaning "unceasing, vigorous, brave", also referring to the royal dynasty of the Amali, combined with reiks meaning "ruler, king". I'm not 100% certain about this name, tbh. But I can imagine his lover whispering Amalrich just before they meet for a kiss. That and I just like the sound of it too ^^
Alright, with that out of the way, the most important HC- I don't care how bloodthirsty the Hessian is, he is such a fur baby dad. Did you guys see how devastated he was when his horse Daredevil got shot!? Not to mention how, despite his injury, Daredevil searched for Amalrich in the forest and stayed beside his grave until his passing? And followed his human to Hell in the afterlife to continue being his steed? That would not have happened if The Hessian treated his horse horribly.
In fact, I think his love for Daredevil is why the American soldiers shot him down in the final stand. A survivor of the many battles that The Hessian took part witnessed how someone slashed at the horse, and it sent him into a blind fury that left him more vulnerable to injury. Shooting Daredevil down was part of their plan to kill this monster once and for all.
The Hessian knows some English, enough that he could engage in conversation if he wanted to. He taught himself the language when he was sent to America, knowing it could potentially give him an advantage in battle. Such as if he were to sneak past enemy lines, or take hostages for information. But good luck with getting him to talk. You could count on one hand how many people, including Daredevil, he actually enjoys conversation with.
We see in the movie that he isn't some dumb brute. When he couldn't get in the church to kill Baltus, he fashioned a makeshift harpoon and forced him outside the holy grounds. This was very much true even in life, and his battle intelligence was a big reason he became infamous in the colonies... Though, he still takes great joy in just hacking and slashing everyone in sight even though he's more than capable of taking a more tactical approach.
He genuinely likes the taste of blood. The iron taste is just irresistible to him. He'll eat rare steak, lick his own wounds and even play mind games on his enemy by cleaning his sword of their blood with his tongue just for the taste... Now imagine offering him a coin or something similar as if it were a piece of gum XD
Amalrich fully knows he's a monster. He doesn't delude himself into thinking that a higher power is 'allowing' him to kill for whatever reason, or that he can walk into a church and repent and his soul will be cleansed. This is a man who knows he's going to Hell, and does not show any fear at the thought. With how he triumphantly shouted before riding back to Hell with Mary in tow? You know that he is one of the few men who would actually grin in the face of The Devil.
When he's not on the battlefield, he prefers the quiet. He hunts regularly, both for survival and to satisfy his bloodlust, and he's grown fond of the quiet in the woods. The birds and crickets chirping, the breeze blowing through the leaves, the occasional twig snap with a doe stepping into the plains. Its peaceful for him.
Amalrich didn't stop at just filing down his own teeth. He started off carving wood in his spare time, but the more skilled he grew at hunting, the more bone crafts in his home you'd find. His idea of a courting gift would be to take the bones of the animal he believes best suits his S/O and carve it into a beautiful ring or pendant for them to wear.
Will teach his S/O how to ride and tend to a horse, and gift them an equine of their own who he will care for as if they were his own. His bride/groom will grow to love the quiet, moonlit horse rides they take together.
It takes a lot to get Amalrich to smile. A real smile, not a sadistic and wicked grin. And it takes so much more to get a chuckle out of him, let alone a big belly laugh. I can guarantee you that the only way you'll make him laugh is if he loves you.
Doesn't realize how touch starved he is. Gently take his face in your hands, and watch him internally battle with himself as he tries not to just melt right then and there under your warm and soft touch.
He is also a surprisingly gentle lover. At least to his enemies. He is very aware and in control of the damage he inflicts, and he would never harm his beloved (without their permission at least 😏). He'll hold them securely in his lap as they ride together, he'll slowly and purposely take their hand to bestow a kiss to their palm, and he'll nuzzle into the crook of their neck while breathing in their scent while being mindful of his teeth...
But make no mistake, he is very passionate too. The way he kissed Mary? The woman who treated him as a servant and kept him from his eternal rest? If that's how he would kiss his enemy, imagine how he would kiss his betrothed.
Ok I better stop here 😅 I know it's not too much, but I'll be sure to make a part 2 if I think of more ^^ Ihope you all enjoy! Happy All Hollows Eve! 🎃
