Siren song, music, and control!
You guys, I spend a lot of time reading theories on Reddit, and while reading one of them, I had a thought that blended with a theory of my own.
I’m convinced the next season will be much more musical than the last ones—literally using music as a device to drive part of the narrative. Soundtracks are crucial to the series, and having music serve as an actual plot mechanism would be amazing.
This detail ties into my theory about the Hyde camp and the strategy they supposedly use to keep the community united. Since Capri—a musician—is in the mix, I imagine music therapy will be one of the methods employed, likely with a dash of toxic positivity.
You know that "good vibes" atmosphere that masks a macabre truth? Yeah—that thought struck me when I remembered Camp Chippewa from the second Addams Family movie.
Basically, for those who don't remember, the camp was for privileged youth—mostly wealthy and white. One of the most iconic scenes involves Wednesday, Pugsley, and Joel trying to escape and getting caught red-handed; they are subjected to a guitar-accompanied sing-along and confined in a cabin for brainwashing purposes. This forces the three of them to cooperate and eventually sabotage a rigged play about the history of colonization.
We haven't really seen the "brainwashing" aspect explored in that way so far. We’ve seen plenty of dynamics involving control and submission, but the methods have always been aggressive—so what if they used a more "welcoming" form of manipulation instead?
This smells like a cult to me!
And what does this have to do with the siren song? Think about it: there are amulets that repel the influence of the song, so perhaps there are ways to harness that power without actually being a siren (or while being one)… Like using an instrument or a musical score, blending elements of hypnosis with notes capable of exerting a positive or negative influence.
This reminds me of the Olga Malacova case—she apparently transformed right in the middle of a concert. We don't have many details, but thanks to Faulkner's diary, we do know of three methods that have been explored and shown on screen: chemical agents, trauma, and hypnosis. But what if music is a fourth element? What if Olga was freed by the orchestra's music? The series doesn't include details by accident; we are literally being guided toward a larger plot.
Getting back to the song!
Our dear Bianca isn't just a siren; as far as we know—and there’s never been any dispute about this—she is the leader of the Nightshades. Now that the Morning Song issue has been (supposedly) resolved, I believe another cult will be revealed, so we need the writers to keep the existing characters relevant to the new storyline. All signs point to the secret society playing a major role, revealing past events; if the Nightshades bear a responsibility toward the community, it means that the unresolved issues of past members become the responsibility of current members.
Which makes me wonder: is Tabitha is a Raven psychic or a siren?
I don't know if the specific type of Outcast she is has been established yet—beyond her being a old member of the Nightshades, as was evident in one of the book's excerpts. But let's take a moment to count how many confirmed psychics we have for the next season:
Wednesday, Morticia, Hester and Ophelia. That’s a lot of Outcasts of the same type; it would be more interesting—following the logic of mirroring between seasons—if Thabita were the leader of the Nightshades and, on top of that, a siren! This also ties into the idea of cycles repeating or events nearing fruition, like Wednesday's vision involving Crackstone—acting like game pieces or a role to be played out.
Unless, of course, the new cult consists of psychics or simply the Outcast elite.
These are some of the ideas that crossed my mind; do my lines of reasoning make sense?
