like she was also raised by shadow weaver... i get that shes supposed 2 b the Good Guy but cmon. she couldve been more toxic. catra cannot be the only toxic one.

in my mind adora would be the Controlling type of toxic, where she kinda thinks she Owns catra bc shadow weaver constantly made catra adora's responsibility and prolly embedded the idea that catra is an extension of Adora thus... controlling.. plus since adoras like catras only friend = more reliance on adora 👀👀👀👀 catra's codependence on adora would Nourish this nicely...

cuz we see Catra mirror shadow weaver in the series, can we see adora mirror sw by not recognising catra's autonomy since she views catra as her own....? Just putting it out there guys dont jump me.... its toxic for a reason...

this couldve been capitalised on when adora tries to get catra to leave the horde w her at the start because since adora thinks catra is an extension of herself, she thinks catra will willingly follow anywhere she goes and its a bit of a shock when catra has her own agency outside of adora... Disobedience yk. Equals dispute Equals fighting Equals toxic yuri yummy

also she'd want catra all to herself. she gets jealous of scorpia in the graphic novel idc shes possessive in my mind... 👀

Adora in the first season is interesting. In the first few episodes she victim blames Catra and doesnt think about how Catra covering her would affect Catra especially as she knows what Shadow Weaver thinks of Catra.

We know she is a repressor. But she didnt think much about her life in the Horde. Lonnie was right in a way. They were her friends and she didnt spare them a thought. And immediately after defecting she immediately acts dismissive about Catra and sees her as always up to something (no matter how true that was what were her clues for that. At the Sea Gate she is very dismissive of Catra. Maybe Catra fighting her then reflects how she immediately thinks Catra is up to no good.)

Also in Promise she is also dismissive of Catra who was destroying the spider bot and going to deal the finishing blow until Adora jumped in at the end and dismissed Catra's handling of the situation.

In Take Control the way she corners Catra and tries to get her to do want she wants is a bit of an indication of how their dynamic used to be. She does back off and offers Catra a choice which was one of the few things Catra was after (having control so she can be safe)

One thing I love with Glitra is how they’re both the one person who truly, fully gets the other.

Glimmer is surrounded by people who love her but idealize her. Bow always sees the best in her. Adora never stopped seeing her at least a little bit as that perfect, magical girl who took her in after she left the Horde. But Catra sees her bad sides. The anger. The spite. The need to win despite the cost.

Catra is surrounded by people who only acknowledge her existence to the extent that they fear her, and she drives away the people who love her. Adora never truly understands why Catra won’t ‘just leave the Horde’ like she did. Scorpia can’t understand why Catra is so mean, how Catra doesn’t feel she can afford to let her guard down in a world where she’s faced nothing but betrayal. But Glimmer gets it. Glimmer sees Catra’s desperate need to prove herself. She sees Catra’s pride. She sees her refusal to meekly accept what she’s given. Her need to force the world to acknowledge her, despite the cost.

They get it, and so, when they are their lowest point, when 'both of them are truly alone’ they still have each other.

And they are going to make it absolutely everyone’s problem!

also can we talk about how adora's fantasy features catra in That Outfit. like they grew up together, every single day of her entire life she saw catra ONLY in horde uniform. you'd think that would be the default image of her in adora's mind, but then princess prom happened, catra showed all decked out in dapper butch eveningwear, and the encounter completely rewired adora's brain. 'yes, this is all my girlfriend will be wearing from now on in my perfect ideal future'. it's been 4 fucking seasons and adora has not even vaguely recovered from the sight of catra in a suit. god bless.

people talk about adora’s ‘type’ being big strong women and catra falling outside of that but I’d argue that despite catra’s stature she fits adora’s type energy wise. exhibit a in shot in the dark where there’s a big concrete wall in their way and catra cuts and then kicks right through it to create a door. and then exhibit b being that catra doesn’t hesitate to take on anybody that’s like, three times her size. when they were enemies adora very much saw catra as a formidable threat strategically And physically

Oh, 1,000,000,000% agreed! Both Adora and Catra are freaking supersoldiers even by Etheria's standards, and we're talking about a planet where animal features and multi-ton-vehicle-flinging are common enough to not be commented on! The only reason either of them struggled so much was because the little evil gremlin that Shadow Weaver put in their heads that told them that they were worthless. While Adora pushed herself even harder to try and overcome the crazy high (and constantly moving) bar that Shadow Weaver set for her, Catra flipped a defiant double-fisted "Fuck you!" to Shadow Weaver and proved to herself that she was capable of taking down literally anyone she went up against, no matter how big or strong, doing it quietly, and then learning to construct a false front to make it so she would always be underestimated.
