It will be a while before the route from Tuolumne Meadows north to the ‘High Sierra Camp’ at Glen Aulin looks like this during summer, 2019.  It is a spectacular walk along the PCT that can be done as a relatively flat (800 total feet of elevation gain) 11-mile day hike (round trip).  The ‘High Camps’ are closed for the entire 2019 season this year because of the daunting snow pack.

There are seven High Sierra Camps in Yosemite, and the one at Glen Aulin is arguably the crown jewel. It's right at the base of White Cascade and the seductive pool below it. Even for those who do not blanche at the cost, most PCT hikers are unable to plan far enough out and reserve a bed at Glen Aulin.

The most spectacular features on this walk are Tuolumne Falls and the White Cascade, as the river tumbles toward the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River and Hetch Hetchy Dam and Reservoir. The PCT veers east and misses the descent toward Hetch Hetchy (in a future post we will talk about the controversial Hetch Hetchy).
