Another memory was brewing as he remembered one girl he tried to take to the dance in his senior year. Clark hated that these memories were popping up. But today it was all a memory were coming back to him.
He would never forget her as he tried to be her friend, everyone else had made fun of her. But him even if he was sort of in the crowd, he wanted to make sure everyone had a chance. The chance to give someone else a friendship, half of his friend had made fun of her because of the way she looked. He one the other hand never did.
“Everyone makes fun of her mom, no one wants to take her to the dance” Clark was talking to his mother in the kitchen “Well I tried to talk to her but she kept avoiding me, and I didn’t know what else I could do” he sighed as he listened to his mother advice. But he took it to heart a he was going to try and ask Emily again if she wanted to go to the dance with him.
Later after speaking to his mom he went in search of where Emily would be, someone had told him that she always hung around the near bridge or where people drop sticks from time to time. “Hey Emily I know we weren’t able to talk that well at school, but I’m and wasn’t making fun of you. But I would like to take you to the dance if you like to go as friends. “ Clark watched as tears came down her face.
“Is that a yes?” he asked as he smiled at her “It’s a yes Clark, you’re one of the nicest guys in school and also popular. I’m not so popular and wasn’t I thought no one wold take me , because look at me” Clark looked at her “I only see you Emily for who you are not for who you look like on the outside”
Saturday night came and Clark was getting ready to pick her up. “Clark .” “Mom what is it?” he asked as he could see the sadness in her eyes. “I’m sorry but Emily died earlier tonight, it was some guys hit her with a car. “ He couldn’t save her and that was the first person he couldn’t save. Clark felt a weight of loss. Emily was gone and he couldn’t do anything about it. “Why?” he asked as he felt the tear rolling down his face ‘She ..didn’t deserve it mom” he screamed as he felt Martha hold him in his arms.
That memory was still painful as he didn’t really like going to his high school reunion dance because of what had happened to Emily.
