Sky wasn't in the lab at that moment since after placing the presents she had gone out to get breakfast for all of them as part of her gift to them. She had gone to a local bakery to get everyone's favorites, even indulging in a rare treat of a blackberry scone and a cinnamon roll for herself. She also hand picked up all the ingredients she needed to make their morning drinks extra special once she got back.

She actually arrived just in time to see the boys hugging. Her smile was soft and just the slightest bit sad at the sight. She was glad to see them wearing the sweaters and quietly went over to her desk to set down the bag of treats and start making the drinks she had planned.

She wasn't hiding so it wouldn't be hard for them to hear or see her but at the same time she wasn't trying to draw attention to herself yet. She planned to approach them once she had finished making drinks so that she could present them each with breakfast as she usually did if Jayce hadn't beaten her to it, which it didn't seem he had that morning.

Sky was hiding under her desk in the lab with her knees pulled up to her chest and her arms tight around her legs while her head was pressed against her knees. Her hair was a messy curtain around her like her hair had been pulled roughly from it's poof. Soft sobbing breaths could be heard from her trembling form.

She didn't hear Jayce approach and looked up in surprise when he spoke before throwing herself into his arms and holding on tight. She didn't speak as she clung to him but some scattered papers nearby would provide a clue.

The papers were all related to her current research, some of which had a glaring 'Rejected' stamp in bright red while others had 'Pending' in a foreboding black.

[crime meme - Sky] Viktor raises a brow at Sky, playful and wry. He holds up the Blanket, freshly mended from a hole he'd torn in it the night before. "Miss Young, did you mend this without telling anyone, again?" ( @mxchineherald )

Sky looked from Viktor to the Blanket, not entirely sure why this was even a question since she was usually the one who washed and mended it as needed.

"Guilty?" She answered while tilting her head, not sure what other answer he expected from her.

 He was taken by surprise when Sky leapt up and wrapped her arms around him, so much so that he stiffened up and held still for a moment or two. He wasn’t just going to let her hang there, though, and so he cautiously hooked arm arm around her back, placing his palm against her shoulder bone. His brass eyes trailed down to the scattered papers, noticing the large red text printed over the sketches of plants and notes.

 His brows knit a stitch at the implication, sympathetic agony twisting in his gut. He knew exactly what that felt like, and what he wished he could have had when he dealt with the pain alone. He pulled her into a reciprocated hug, pressing his jaw against the curve of her shoulder. “Oh, Sky. I’m sorry. This isn’t the end, I swear. You can get your case together again, and give it another shot.” He rubbed her back, staying above the waist for proper behavior.

 “Just take a breath in,” he paused to take in a breath, then let it out in a sigh through his nose, “and let it back out.”

Sky relaxed slightly when she felt Jayce's arm around her and clung to him tighter. She normally wouldn't break down like this but the past week had been hell between her normal workload and preparing for the presentation that had resulted in all those papers. The worst part was that it wasn't over yet. There were another presentation coming up in a few days to discuss the ones marked 'Pending' and if she didn't come up with a way to convince the Council of the merit of her work then the rest of it would be rejected as well.

She tried to breathe as he asked and eventually she would manage it although she didn't let go of him yet, talking too much comfort in his arms. She did manage to speak eventually however.

"They barely looked at my research and I don't think they actually listened to a word i said. They were so interested in getting through my presentation so they could go to lunch that we didn't even get through all of it. There's another meeting in a few days to go through the rest of it." She said, sounding exhausted and defeated. She knew her work had value and that it would change lives for the better if she could just get even one project implemented.

Sky was raised by her mother and her uncle, mother's brother, in Zaun. Her uncle, Miguel, acted as a father figure for her since her own father was supposedly unknown although the truth was something of an open secret in the family.

Miguel treated Sky like his own daughter, especially since his other children were all boys. He always had a soft spot for her so when his work as a surveyor for new mines took him to areas with plant life, he always made sure to bring some samples back for her.

When Sky was old enough to start thinking about boys, Miguel taught her how to help a man tend his beard and how to tie a tie, as well as other related skills. All of this was at her request since while there was a cultural expectation that she find a husband there was no real pressure. Especially since the family knew about her hopes of getting into the Piltover Academy.

Miguel and Sky's mother still live in Zaun but were never informed of her death. With Viktor and Jayce gone no one knew the truth of what happened to her so it was assumed that she died in the battle against the Noxians. Eventually that information would make it her family but not in time for the memorial and no body was ever found to be buried.

In alternate timelines where Sky is with Viktor and Jayce in the commune she does eventually manage to get word to her family about what has happened to her. This leads to her mother and Miguel visiting the commune and to the potential for Jayce and Viktor to get punched in the face by Miguel for not taking care of his daughter/niece properly.

( For Sky, era :: s1a1.5 ) That morning, which seemed unremarkable besides it being her birthday, she would be greeted by both Jayce and Viktor casually, without any fanfare or celebration. It seemed as though the two of them thought nothing of the day, and went about their usual business. It wouldn't be until Sky approached her desk that she would catch sight of two boxes set on top of the files she needed to work on that day. Inside one box, labelled with a tag that read 'From J.', there would be a custom, hand pounded pendant, with an inlay of mother of pearl for the centerpiece. A note would be under the package, itself, reading:

"Sky, I hope you enjoy this necklace. I pounded it myself at the forge. It's made from a special metal that you can only find in the Zaunian Deep Crag Mines. I heard that a lot of people from the undercity like to wear it. Happy Birthday! Jayce"

Inside the next box, labelled with a tag that read 'From Viktor', there would be a pair of earrings, laser etched with leaf designs, obviously made with his latest invention, the Hexclaw. Attached would be a note, reading:

"Miss Young, You have made it another year, and it has been an enlightening one. These earrings were made with the Hexclaw, using scrapped cuttings from Jayce's pendant project. I hope they match to your liking, and you wear them together. Happy Birthday, Viktor."

While she would examine the gifts, Viktor and Jayce would approach, each pulling the string on party-poppers to release streamers and confetti over her from behind. "Surprise!" Jayce would say.

Even though it was her birthday, Sky wasn't expecting it to be anything but a normal day. In fact the only she herself was doing different was that she had brought a batch of buñuelos and flaons to share with the boys. They were traditional treats that were often part of the birthday celebrations back home. She wasn't trying to draw attention to her birthday by doing this but just wanted a taste of home and thought it would be nice to share with the boys as a sort of smaller version of the parties back home.

Sky greeted the boys as she usually did although she was a bit surprised to see Jayce there so early since unless he stayed the night she was usually here a bit earlier than him. Although she was running a touch later than usual since she had needed the time to pack up the treats which were in a basket she carried. She was planning to put her things down before offering the treats to the boys when she noticed the boxes.

She frowned slightly and set her things aside before opening the first box. Her eyes widened and she let out a little gasp when she saw the pendant. She carefully lifted it into the light to see it better and admire it. After a moment she looked for a card and found the one from Jayce. Her face began turning pink as she read it. She actually did own a few pieces of the same mental, such as the clips she used to keep her hair in its usual poof.

She wasn't paying attention to the boys behind her but they would likely see her putting on the pendant before moving to the next box. She had a guess on who she hoped it was from and her blush deepened when she was right. She opened the box with another soft gasp as she looked at the earrings. She reached out to ever so gently touch them before lifting them up to admire them in the light. She recognized the mental and when she read Viktor's note her face got even reader. Even her ears were tinted red.

She had just finished putting in the earrings when she heard them behind her. She jumped with a squeak of surprise when the poppers went off and spun around to face them. For a moment she was completely speechless before a rare bout of bravery took her and she stepped forward to pull each of them into a tight hug, careful as always not to hurt Viktor with her touch but still holding him tighter than usual.

"Thank you." She said softly while trying to wipe away the tears of happiness that spilled from her eyes.

Sky didn't remember the previous night very well. It had been a party to celebrate the opening of a new Hexgate. She hadn't meant to stay long and certainly hadn't meant to drink as much as she had. But when she kept getting handed drinks by important people she couldn't exactly refuse.

By the time she was able to leave with Viktor, she was very drunk and he didn't seem much better as she helped support him on the way back to his apartment. Her plan was to get him home and then get home herself but when she looked up she realized that in her drunk state she had begun walking on autopilot and taken him to her own apartment. A change of plans then. She would put him in her bed then go sleep on the couch herself.

What happened was as she was trying to get him into her bed they both ended up tumbling into the bed together. Fortunately she was able to make sure he wasn't hurt. Unfortunately she was too tired to try to get back up and ended up falling asleep curled around him protectively.

Earthquakes were rare but not unheard of, still this one had caught Sky unprepared. She had been in the lab, working with Blitzcrank to put away some heavy equipment that was too much for her to do on her own. When the first quake happened it caused her to stumble and fall to the ground while her glasses went flying. The next wave was stronger and items began to fall from the shelves of the storage room.

She began frantically searching for her glasses before Blitz suddenly scooped her up just before she heard something heavy collide with the back of the robot's body. It wasn't hard to figure out that it would have it her if not for Blitz's actions.
