Can I say that I really loved this couple, especially Nae? They are so wholesome and cheery! A very chill vibe compared to most indie protags.

marcus stands in front famine, meeting each pair of eyes, looking for one of them to look at him like something monstrous. “evening, everyone,” he begins, with a heavy heart, giving one last glance back to rafael, catching his cousin's nervousness as he drags a hurried cigarette to his lips. marcus is calm, collected, despite the snake pit they all find themselves in, but there is still a palpable weight on his shoulders. “some of us might not be bound by blood, but we are all family here. we protect each other. now, more than ever, we need to be able to rely on each other, trust each other.” in reality, he can't trust anyone outside the family, and if he would allow himself, he wouldn't trust the family either, thoughts of being framed for usurping his uncle tickling his consciousness. “keep family close, but keep your connections in the other gangs closer. you hear something strange, see something out of place, someone gives you a bad fuckin’ vibe, i want to hear about it, directly. if you can't get a hold of me, you talk to rafael.” a small, incoherent sneer escapes rafael’s throat. without a word, the famine heir pulls away from marcus’ side. a final, scathing look before walking out of the kitchen altogether. marcus watches his brother leave, feeling the weight of his absence already. with a slow inhale, marcus turns to meet the eyes of each family member that remains, jessica first, and kitty last, eye contact lingering, a silent ‘trust me’. “we're going to bring our horseman back home. alive. as for those responsible,” marcus returns his gaze to the rest of the kitchen, a cruel smile beginning to bloom, “famine will bleed them dry.”

in the hard time / time served arc, marty's uncle joey is getting out of prison. this is causing a bit of a stir around town, though no one, including doc, will tell marty what exactly his uncle did in the first place. marty goes to doc's lab to get some sleep and talk about it, but doc's not there. he tells prof irving about his uncle, says maybe he'll just talk to joey in the morning and things will be better, but rather than waking up ready to take on that task, he wakes up in the delorean on the way to 1972.

professor irving had the idea to bring marty back so he could save his uncle 'as you saved me' which is interesting because as soon as things start to get a little out of control (like they do), he's insisting that marty is endangering the space-time continuum. even the little angel version of irving that marty imagines as he's working out what he should do about joey (as they're in the process or robbing doc's mother's house mind you) says the past is 'inviolate' and that marty 'set out on this excursion to uncover the truth-- not alter it'

so what did professor irving think was gonna happen when he brought marty back?

just another note-- i love how marty's just cool with irving now even though the guy had marty convinced he was gonna be erased in the previous story and went after doc and marty with robots and dropped them thousands of years in the past and then literally kidnapped him like... that's pretty neat

also marty telling himself 'you always have to help someone who's in trouble!' is very good he's a good kid who just wants to help
