Yin and yang, day and night, push and pull, the world was ruled by opposites, everywhere you went, in any culture you may travel to escape the concept, it would be there, bearing a different name and wearing a different face, yet all the same beneath, it seemed like the structure of the universe relied on this, it was balance, the grains of reality shaped around good and evil, not too much of one without the other, the pendulum only swung so far in one side before it was tipping back to the other.
It was all Megumi could see when he looked at Yuuji. Yuuji had all the qualities he lacked, he was selfless and brave where megumi could only be selfish and scared. megumi had no strong, unshakable morals like his counterpart, he worked with no belief system, protecting the few he cared for, and yuuji was one of them.
Yuujis selflessness tore megumi apart, it seemed all he did now was worry, he had known for a while now that yuuji wasn't his, as much as he wished it, and as much as he tried to beg him to stop fighting so hard, he didn't need to bear all the weight alone, there were other people who could carry this with him, he could carry this with him, it was all a fruitless endeavour. Some people were meant for the spotlight, born with features to be kissed by sunshine, a fate greater than themselves laid upon their shoulders before they knew how to handle the weight.
Megumi counted the steady beats of yuujis heart late at night, sheltered in moonlight, his fingers pressing into the divots and notches of yuujis scarred chest, the sun couldnt reach them here, there would be more people to save tomorrow, a new day and its inevitability bogged megumi with dread, but here and now, tucked away from the rest of the world and wrapped in dusk, he would tuck his head against the pulse of yuujis neck, and finally he would succumb to sleep, subdued by the sound of his heartbeat.
