Hell yeah rarepair! Joel/Ryan please. College AU. Theatre people. Joel is an actor, Ryan is a techie. -Dregs
A/N: You know, I'm noticing that all the prompts you give me never seem to want to remain short drabbles. It's a problem.
"Talk to who?" Ryan asked, tearing his eyes away from their usual spot and sighing in defeat at the look on Jack's face. "He's a big shot actor, Jack."
"Didn't stop him from talking to me."
"That's because you carefully crafted his favorite set."
"He called it a light in a shit hole."
"You caught his attention because your work is right there always with him."
"So's yours."
"Lights and sound are often over looked. I prefer it that way."
"Like being the mastermind behind each cue in every single scene and like dimming the lights when someone's being an asshole without ever getting yelled at for it?"
"Just like you like purposely making wobbly stools when Gavin pisses you off."
"If the kid would just fucking realize that I can't make a set in an hour, he wouldn't have wobbly anything."
"And it's got nothing to do with the moustache actor who he keeps spending his time around?" A single raised eyebrow and Jack flusters for a moment.
"God damnit, you know I'm not jealous of him!"
"Sure. You know, you could always talk to him."
"Dick."
"Not as fun when it's used against you, is it?"
"It's different."
"How?"
"Geoff isn't Joel. Joel's just an asshole with a big ego and a never ending love for gold."
"And Geoff?"
"He's a sweet guy who respects all of the set team, even tries to help when he can."
"Uh-huh."
"Look, just go talk to Joel god damnit."
"Nah."
"Fine." Jack let the silence trail between them before he stomped out of the booth, Ryan watched him go in confusion. It wasn't the first time they'd had this talk, probably wouldn't be the last, but it was the first time Jack had ever actually looked upset when he left. Then again, maybe now that he and Joel were chums he was getting tired of watching one friend pine after the other. Ryan could understand that. He'd, after all, been spending the better part of the last year trying to convince Jack to talk to Geoff and Geoff to talk to Jack. It was getting ridiculous.
When he turned back to the stage, he felt his stomach drop. Apparently, Jack really was sick of it because he was pointing Joel up to the fucking sound booth. Perfect. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. Well he had no choice now, time to face the music. He watched as Joel begun to look more and more upset before tearing away from Jack and heading up the house stairs to the side door. Ryan was fucked. Jack just flashed him a grin before being called over by Ray to what looked like a broken mirror?
"Hey, you're the one who's been doing lights right?" Joel's voice caught him off guard and he had to stop himself from jumping. He turned, keeping his expression schooled.
"Yeah. Did you have some criticism?" Ryan was rather glad his voice remained as level as it had been when he was talking to Jack.
"I do. Starting with the fact that I don't even know your name."
"And that's got to do with how I light your shows?"
"It does. You should get credit for what you do, there's few people who can make my face not look like a horror film under a blue spotlight."
"Ah. It's not hard to do, your face is quite lovely in itself so you just have to angle it right-"
"Name. What's your name?"
"I'm Ryan."
"Ryan? Well Ryan, you got some free time?"
"I will after this class, did you need something?"
"Yeah. I need your number and a yes."
"What?"
"Give me your number and a yes."
"What do you need my number for?"
"I don't need it. I want it. Same with that yes. I mean, you can turn them down but I'd really enjoy a nice coffee date with you to get to know you better."
"A coffee date? Oh. Oh! Yes. I'd love that very much, just let me find my clip board and I'll give you my number."
"Good. But don't tell Jack."
"What?"
"Don't tell Jack. I fucking hate it when he gets smug about being right."
"What was he right about?"
"What isn't he right about?"
"Geoff."
"Oooo, I like you already." Joel smiled and Ryan relaxed, giving a grin as he handed over the small torn piece of paper. This would certainly be interesting at the very least.
Psychoteeth AU in which Ryan and Joel are demons that one night terrorise RT headquarters. Chaos ensues as everyone fights to hold their own... and hopefully escape as unharmed as possible.
