@heyitspj said: hussie rly dropped the ball with jake and its so upsetting like.. the 4x combo conversations in the derse/prospit moons where the kids were confronting their flaws was soo good and promising! jake was finally admitting to be selfish and obtuse and was paving the way for a solid line of development but Nope. it all got trashed. @heyitspj said: not to mention jake in the new post-retcon timeline was like “no ill just be alone forever and not talk to anybody” which like.. is the Opposite of confronting your problems and making amends with the people youve hurt…..Upsetting
god seriously!! his solution to the whole ordeal was to just push jake to the wayside completely and rag on him mercilessly! which... yeah, i cant lie, it was kind of cathartic given how much i disliked him, but it just felt like a wasted opportunity. he went from being the boring kid that everyone adored for no discernible reason to the butt monkey that everyone makes fun of for no discernible reason. cause honestly, him getting mocked like he does in that 4x conversation combo and onward felt totally out of place - it wasnt the same as the good-natured way ppl made fun of each other usually, but more like “the friend everyone hates” type thing
idk i just think the whole jake situation couldve been much better handled in general. as i said before, it really just felt to me like hussie was expecting jake to be a really popular character (whether due to his old-timey schtick or because he thought fans would take the jake = lord english bait), but when that fell through and jake became one of the most DISLIKED characters, he had to scramble to fix it, and one of his methods of doing so involved making jake seem so pathetic that NO ONE could like him, not even the characters
