Things were going great for TJ on New York, and tonight the club was more crowded than other times. Considering he had to check everything went smoothly, Thomas couldn’t fully enjoy the night, just from time to time he could stop at the VIP room and get a few minutes to relax and have some drinks with the known faces around. There’s when he spotted a familiar redhead sitting at the bar, he hadn’t seen Natasha in a while so he approached her. 

“Well, well...look what the cat dragged in,” he joked as he placed his forearms over the wooden surface, leaning over the counter. “Long time no see, gorgeous. Thought you had forgotten about me and switched for someone else’s club.”

   ( her relationship with many of the former agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been tumultuous at best, outright adversarial at worst; in the initial uproar of the information dump, they’d all been scrambling to discover who they could trust, who they couldn’t, and who needed to be taken out as an immediate threat. she’d had more than one former ally come after her head, and she’d taken out a fair few herself before the dust settled. that was the name of the game -- she doesn’t blame Natasha for that.

   she also doesn’t blame Natasha for choosing to remain with the Avengers rather than join Fury while he rebuilt from the skeleton of what S.H.I.E.L.D. should have been. after all, Sharon hasn’t exactly lent herself to his efforts, either, not directly. (she’s always known there’s a difference between where you want to be and where you need to be.)

   if there’s resentment between them, it’s on her and it stems from an old wound, festering and badly healed over. this, too, she understands is not Natasha’s fault, and she even agrees with the decision she made, but that doesn’t stop the sharp clench of her gut when she thinks of countless covers blown, good agents who met unfair, brutal ends in the name of the greater good.

   she’s been in their shoes, after all. it’s not easy, having the rug pulled out from under you, adapting and finding a way to survive when the mission changes with the blink of an eye. at least her cover had never been blown. )

   You’re a tough woman to get ahold of.
