I know you said that the bees didn't intentionally teach Vessel!Vi any sign language, but did she pick up anything like the dancing IRL bees use while she was there?

she does know the bee dances, but those are only used for giving directions. they're not very useful for communicating with non-bees

she gets by on waving her hands and pointing because leif always understands what she means. don't ask how. they just do

she is so full of rage all the time and cannot voice it because the one thing pk succeeded at is making it so vessels can't talk. literally I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream

so when she decided that being a bee was not working for her she did the only thing she could do and hit the bricks. ran off into the wastes (also called the deadlands, depending on who you ask) for A Long Time

(side note: chronologically, she's Really Dang Old. she hasn't been actually aging because vessels only grow when exposed to light from higher beings and she doesn't have access to any of that)

(side side note: yes, we do think this would make it funnier if she could insist that she's not a kid)

she gets her survival skills from living in Place Where Bugs Aren't Supposed To Survive for so long and her beemerang from stealing it from some dead bug. she doesn't exactly understand the value of geo beyond "it's shiny and dead people usually have a lot of it with them" and is basically a corvid about it. she solves all her problems with violence until kabbu is personally there to stop her. she's an awful little creature and it's great

ark hollowfables was made and trained in the same way and for the same reason and is not much different than regular ark hollowknight. the main Thing that makes the story different is that it's more of a fighter and being contained in it weakened the radiance enough that her plague spreading abilities lessened - at least, before she got help

the tiniest little bit of radi's influence managed to break out of ark and search for someone whose mind was malleable enough to be patient zero for Infection 2: Electric Boogaloo. eventually she finds herself a sad little wasp mimic and roots in his mind, promising him the power to take over the wasp kingdom and eventually all of bugaria-hallownest, and that's how hoaxe gets his mind control powers

so now ark is just Left There in the egg, still sick and weak from fighting the radiance and her infection but not containing the core of her power anymore. we're... still workshopping what happens to it next? for now it's just In A Really Bad Situation

anyway, bees! they're more like regular bug fables bees than hollow knight bees but they still live on the edge of the world in the middle of nowhere. when vi climbed out of the abyss she stumbled across the tram that leads from ancient basin to the hive and ended up there. since the vessel plan was a Royal Secret the bees have no clue what she is but still adopt her as one of their own

which of course just means setting her to work like a regular bee. they don't teach her any formal sign language, so she can be Talked At but can't say anything back. obviously this causes vi a lot of frustration until she eventually runs away into the wastes (later looping back into dirtmouth)
