Brief Biography
→ Andromeda was a fussy child. She never slept through the night and threw fits almost daily. It was a miracle anyone found moments of peace and sleep for the first four years of her life. Then it was a complete change. She settled down and there came the joke about her being slow to warm, needing years to come to accept and settle into life. It wasn’t far off from the truth. She is uneasy and cautious in new situations and around new people. It makes it hard to get to know her on a more personal level. Her childhood was spent close to her family, hiding behind them both literally and figuratively. She would never wander off on her own, and only spoke when spoken to. She became the ideal child. Her parents sheltered her in the pureblood bubble and it wasn’t until she started school that she was able to expand her view on the world. There was a sense of superiority that naturally came with being a Black. It wasn’t her nature, but her nurture. She was groomed to carry herself in a certain manner, and raised around people who did the same and expected the same. Hogwarts was a culture shock for the child who knew nothing outside of the small world curated by her family. She never had to be her own person at home. It was enough that she was simply Andromeda, middle daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black. At school she was encouraged to think for herself, and figure out her independent identity. She found her calling in charm work, particularly healing spells. Not only was she highly skilled, but she got great satisfaction out of it. That sense of accomplishment was intoxicating for Andromeda. It drove her to push herself to learn more and perform better. Her desire to be a healer created a wedge between Andromeda and her parents. The thought of their daughter working in a hospital was too much. They hoped that she would outgrow the phase and come to her senses. It’s the reason they were pushing her towards a betrothal, hoping that marrying quickly after school and having children will stop her from pursuing healing. Andromeda was sure she belonged in the healing profession, but couldn’t find the courage to break away from her parents, even more so from her sisters. Not to mention, that would mean having to tell them that she doesn’t share their elitist views. She tried her best to keep up her family image to make it through school. However, falling in love made it harder than ever to hide herself. She managed to keep her relationship with Ted a secret for their last two years of school - only telling her family of their relationship when she announced their engagement after finishing school. They promptly disowned her and Andromeda Black began her new life as Andromeda Tonks at a summer wedding with Sirius being the only family member in attendance. While she misses her sisters, she does not regret her decision. She’s worked hard to become a healer specializing in treatment for spell damage. Allying with the Order has provided her with a second family and community. Not to mention a surprise pregnancy six years ago that gifted her and Ted with Nymphadora. Andromeda thought she knew love, but it pales in comparison to how she feels for her five year old daughter. She would do anything to keep her safe and ensure she grows up in a better world.
Random Headcanons:
She sold papers and potions in school so she could save up her own money for when she would have to leave home.
Andromeda has several small tattoos that are all often concealed. There is a black star on the back of her neck. It was her first tattoo that she got at the summer of sixteen when she was drunk. An adder is tattooed behind her left ear. Her only tattoos in color are a yellow narcissus flower curved around a blue star on her right hip. A sirius constellation is on her left hip. She has a black sheep on her upper left ribcage that is a matching tattoo with Sirius.
She can drink most people under the table, and getting her drunk is the only way to get her to talk about her family apart from a throw away line here and there.
However, she doesn’t like to drink hard liquor as much now and often has red wine instead.
While she doesn’t detest cats, she prefers dogs. Actually, she’s quite fond of reptiles and would have several if she wasn’t worried about being able to take care of them along with Nymphadora, work, and the war.
She translates runes in her spare time for extra cash.
Her work for the Order is mostly healing members after missions.
She has a love affair with coffee. She’s particular about what she drinks and always drinks it black. It’s never tea in her tea cup.
