it was a bright day, the sun beating down on them in a blazing fire. it was setting now, though the lingering heat was still thick in the air. ben could feel the slight sweat causing some of his hair to stick to his face, but there was no way that him and rey were just going to actually go inside and escape the heat. they’d always found themselves doing something outside, whether it was training or just playing and trying to enjoy themselves. and today? ben felt normal. ben felt like himself. he felt like the person that rey always told him that he was. one that was good, that was gentle, that was kind. and he wanted to embrace it. because in the end? maybe she was right. maybe this was the life he’d always have - a life of happiness ------ a life of light.
he was broken out of his thoughts momentarily as he caught rey’s gaze, a soft laugh escaping his lips before he looked at the setting sun. “we should start heading back,” he said, nodding towards the path they’d followed to get to this spot. “and before you say no, you don’t even have to walk. i’ll carry you.” playfully, he grabbed her and moved to guide her to grab around his neck to hold herself against him, him grabbing her thighs so he could properly give her a piggyback ride. “see? now i’m just your own personal mode of transportation. who needs the falcon? the views may not be as good, but at least you still see the world from a foot or two higher.” his words were bright, holding all of the happiness that he felt radiating through him with the closeness of rey.
“one day you’re gonna be even bigger than me and i’m not even going to be able to carry you.” holding onto her still, he turned his head to the side to look at her, even though he knew he wouldn’t be able to meet her gaze. “how’s my passenger back there?”
ehhhhee….I am so happy
